So I am doing some cleaning, and just have so many old pumps, lights, plumbing parts..... what do you guys do with all your old stuff; especially since it is pretty much worthless (it being out dated stuff).

Set up a Frankenstein tank 
Do an old school softy tank with t8s, no dosing and rely on water changes for all chemistry changes. Like they did years ago before all the fancy gadgets. Set it up with only things from around the house (hence Frankenstein). You'll learn far more about the hobby if you leave your comfort zone a little
I keep all my old stuff. I'm always planning some new tank that never eventuates lol.

I made a setup to culture live phytoplankton out of some old mixing jugs and a power compact light and an old air pump from my freshwater days. I also use some old t8's on my quarantine tanks and copepode tanks. I also use my old powerheads to mix water. I need to get rid of my empty 75gal tank before I get anymore bright ideas like having a crab tank.

Rock Pool Reef Keepers
It was hard to donate my water pump to the Smithsonian because it was powered by the water wheel out back in the waterfall and my steam powered heaters had to be shipped with their associated boilers.
I usually give it to a new club member or local reefer just getting started in the hobby in exchange for the promise of a future frag if they are successful. It gives them something to shoot for. Sometimes I get nothing in return but usually they come through. I don't care either way since the idea is to promote the hobby.

It's odd how many folks equate, "out-of-date" as "worthless". You must realize that there are a ton of would-be hobbyists out there that would die for a chance to get into this awesome hobby. MONEY is the prime deterrent as it isn't cheap by ANY means to set up one's first system.
Out-of-date SHOULD equal "opportunity" for those less financially able to buy all new, up-to-date equipment. Personally, I've been the happy recipient of used, "worthless" hardware and have NEVER had failure using such. Albert Thiel was the marine guru when I started up and I STILL have an ozone gen, MH and ORP meter in use.
What to do with your "worthless" junk? SPONSOR the kid down the street or a co-worker....ANYBODY. Just get them interested. You'll clean out your garage and make some lucky person HAPPY.

I just gave a Red Sea C/Skim 1800 away, along with some pumps and other equipment. While the skimmer is not really outdated, it doesn't fit well with my current set-up. A young guy is starting a nice sized reef, so I passed it on to him. I think giving away old stuff is a good trend, keeping the wheel of reef keepers going, and giving a new reefer the boost they need, to properly acclimate into the hobby.
