whats everyone using for carbon? maybe you dont even use it....i havent used it in about a year :confused: ....idk if thats good or bad lol. how often do you change it? thanks!

Chemipure Blue, change bag every month or so. Keeps my water nice and clear. Been using for around 2 months and so far really happy.

BRS ROX 0.8...in a reactor with some phosgurd mixed in...change it every 2 weeks...

I use marineland black diamond when I do use carbon. I don't find it to be necessary all the time but I do like to run it at least once a month for removing any harmful things I can't test for.

BRS large lignate. I like the rox .08 but can't seem to keep it from floating in the reactor. The lignate rinses clean pretty quickly. The rox almost doesn't need to be rinsed.

I've gone back and forth so many times between different brands and sizes to none. On my newest tank build I went back to the BRS ROX 0.8 in a reactor and have been extremely happy with it. I change it every 2 weeks.

BRS ROX mixed 2 to 1 with GFO, changed out weekly. Flushed with 5 gallons of tank water for my water change.

Carbon not only clears the water it also removes toxic pollutants.

I have used probably all the brands out there. And in my personal opinion all works the same. Some deplete faster than others but at the end are all the same. They do what you need to do, clear your water and remove some toxic waste from the water column. I use it for just a day or two and turn off the reactor until I need to use it again. Probably I get about 4 to 6 runs from a 1/3 full on a little fishes 150 reactor depending on the brand and grain size. I need to recall that I don't have an RoDi unit so my water is tap water just with Prime. I don't do constantly water changes probably one's a year and just a 30 or 40%. So, my carbon running schedule is every other week for a day or two. I have never been on any mayor algea problem, or chemistry unbalanced, my water is always Cristal clear. And everyone is happy specially my pocket. I could said that it won't hurt to use it one's a while as part of your mechanical filtration. Also remember that it could remove beneficial trace elements as well. So run it wisely and just for the time you need, I just can tell on MPE. In other words you can't be wrong to use it.
