What does everyone use for Carbon?

I try not spend too much on all the new & hyped about products anymore ... I use what works and still does it's job and would stick to using the same product(s) regardless. Can't afford anymore expenses that I could afford and as long as my system is still thriving, I'm a happy camper!

I have had great results with the ROX 0.8 from BRS. I change it every two weeks. Water stays crystal clear.

I have used Seachem MaytrixCarbone and BRS ROX 0.8. A reactor of a manifold. Change 3 to 4 weeks. Sometimes I mix 2 to 1 in a jumbo reactor.

Instead of gfo, I'm gonna start putting Purigen in my reactor on top of some ROX carbon. I don't know if they have the same exhaustion rate, but at least the Purigen will let me know when it's expired, then I know the carbon is done also.

Whatever's cheapest on Amazon. Right now, Marineland Black Diamond was the best bargain I could find while still coming from a decent brand. I honestly don't believe RoX or any other fancy stuff works any better at doing what I want out of carbon.

That type of carbon, the Marineland bituminous carbon (most common carbon), is actually meant to clean air moreso than water.

The ROX, while more expensive, is meant for water, has many times the surface area, and requires less each use.

I personally haven't used carbon in 6 months and my water is clear, but when I use it, I go with ROX. I keep a jar of Marineland Black Diamond to fill the cup on top of my protein skimmers waste collector.

I definitely can vouch for the Black Diamond cleaning the air pollutants and odors because the carbon is the only thing covering the nasty skim mate from the waste collector and it doesn't smell one bit. And it lasts forever when filtering odors.

But yeah, use whatever works :)

i also use BRS rox 0.8 change it every 3-4 weeks

how much are you guys using per how many gallons?

I have used chemipure on my nuvo 40 and it worked great. With my new 75 I started off with the BRS lignite but have the ROX 0.8 for when that depletes. In all honesty it all does the same but the most important part is the flow through the carbon. Too fast and not contained enough it eill break down... I find that I use the small BRS reactor with two of their sponge things to make sure it's compressed enough not to break down on me.

I bought a large bag of pelleted carbon from the DR's, reasonably priced and lasted months running 1.5 cups in a reactor changing out monthly. Did get some ROX during the BF sales, that's up next.

I was using Rox, the switched to Aquaforest Carbon, then seeded filter media. I have not used carbon 7 months
