What does the "average" reef tank look like?

What level do you consider your reef?

I consider above average to be a tank with good colors, mature colonies and minimal nuisance algae. I'm patiently waiting on the mature colonies, but I have little nuisance algae and good colors. I voted for average.

I voted average. Starting to try out new placement strategies and supplements to enhance growth and color. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
BTW..your tanks look awesome!

This is me 3 months in. Still hoping things grow so I can place them permanently! I have plans but executing will be the problem. I'd say I'm below average overall since I'm lacking growth

I would call that new, not below average. And definitely on the above average side of new!

I would say mine is below average. New rock, clown fish killing my torch coral from hosting and yellow clown goby possibly not making my acros happy. Overall I'm happy, my mandarin is feeding (pods only) which has been a challenge.

well i think mine is average compare to the tanks i've seen in this forum. no Mps, no apex, no big skimmer ist goes on, nothing but cheap stuff but everything is healthy and growing. the whole setup is under $800 but lets not talk about corals thats different story. You dont need top dollar stuff to keep you tank and livestock happy and healthy. the only thing you need is R2R to keep your tank right lots of information in this forum to keep your livestock healthy. so my tank is below average to average reef tank. tank is young only 6 months after reset so its still frags. Happy reefing.

yeah everything i said is crap now. now that i can keep sps alive and healthy now i need better equipment. Im a sps addict now but a proud addict hahaha

At just under 5 months old I voted my reef as a new tank. Hopefully everything will continue to grow and mature. What surprises me is the amount of coraline algea I have. It seems to have almost covered all my rocks in a short amount of time but other reefs that are way more established and have a ton of coral growth don't have as much on their rocks.
