Two of my tank that has been running for over a year has a sweet kelp smell. They both are doing well and are housing sps.

But my 20 gallon nano that I have been battling Dino for the last month as a completely different smell, it smells like a fishy armpit.

I’m smelling the water, btw.

Victory!

Seriously, just slight, musty, ocean smell most of the time.
*just filter pads and gunk during cleaning,,, don't notice any smell at all just standing next to the tank normally

Does your tank has any issues?
No, everything and everyone is happy. Good water. Rocks were dry rock in July, it's a new tank

I have various or no smells. A lot associated with addition of water and types of food added

Do you run any carbon at all?

After I feed the tank I get a decent odor. Otherwise I can’t detect it although I’m sure visitors can. The only time I get something is when the skimmer needs to be cleaned out.

That feeling when you get home from a long day at work and half the house smells like farts and you know you have work to do so your significant other doesn't hate you

For some reason I always associated that sweet smell with tank is doing good don't touch anything! Aquarium rooms been smelling weird lately though. Almost nauseating, like a mix of coral slime and algae.

If you search "Dino Smell" on this forum, you'll find quite a few observations that agree. Dino outbreaks can create a dramatically different odor to the system. Usually unpleasant. I don't think it's likely we smell the toxins directly - but the dinos certainly change the chemistry of compounds in the water.
