What does your tank smell like?

I don't run carbon on my tank; somewhat afraid of head holes. In saying that though once every few months (usually in the same week of the month) my wife will let me know I need to get rid of the smell or get rid of the tank. So for a few days I will run carbon in the sump.

For some reason I always associated that sweet smell with tank is doing good don't touch anything! Aquarium rooms been smelling weird lately though. Almost nauseating, like a mix of coral slime and algae.

I was just talking about this same situation with my significant other.
She said; “It’s not the tank, go take a shower fcs.”
