What dwarf angels do best in a reef?

Yea it is not right, most dwarf angels eat with in a day if not almost immediately. Some may hide for a day or two.. If you see nothing externally he might have some internal parasite.

Nothing externally . Looks healthy , I have seen him nip at the overflow or live rock . I don’t know if that’s a good sign .

Mine are almost always picking at the glass of rocks for algae.. They are very busy fish.
But if he is picking he is eating something so that should be good.

Maybe that’s where he’s comfortable and safe . He keeps going next to the fire shrimp like he’s expecting the shrimp to do something. Maybe because he’s a wild caught flame angel and that’s his natural instinct .

Tomorrow I am going to buy a scallop and cut it up into fine fine pieces , and also try some live food. If that doesn’t work then there’s an issue

2 angles I have masked swallow and Bellus are the best for reef in my opinion had a blue face He was a terror!!!! Had a Fetish for shrooms cleared a rock full of them smh

IMO and more importantly IN MY EXPERIENCE the only true reef safe angels on a very consistent basis and on a very long term basis are the family Genicanthus........ i.e. Spot Breast, Lamark's, Bellus, Watanabei

Coral beauty all the way. Have had 3 and never had one bother any of my coral. They are tough and can hold their own against aggressive tank mates. They tend to be a little more hardy than the other dwarf angel varieties as well

Never had a problem with either my Flame, or Coral Beauty in a mostly SPS tank. I keep the well fed also.

I have two (200 and 54) mixed reef tanks.mostly sps and a lot of it.i have kept dwarfs for the last 15 years and honestly have never had a problem with them destroying any sps,lps or zoes.i have heard people say they have but that's not my experience .they do scrap with each other frequently but only for seconds at a time with no battle wounds to speak of.i do add them in pairs but only cause I like pairs of fish. here is a list of my pigs at present

I had a potters for a couple years, 2 different mixed reef tanks, LPS SPS and zoas. No issue at all. Just went MIA recently have not found the body yet, not really sure what would have happened to him. Figure he must have gotten into an overflow somehow as the tank has a canopy. Or something pulled him under a rock.

I just replaced him with a tank bred Flame angel. It's very small but I don't anticipate any issues. They say tank bred angels are the way to go for reef tank.

I had the same issue in my biocube, established tank. Downsized from a 60 cube only had a pair of clowns, bought the potters angel, really gorgeous, had it for two weeks and boom gone. It’s been 9 months, and still nothing. Weird . Plus I moved my tank last week and nothing behind.

clean up crews are just that.if ya gotm and a fish dies behind a rock .they make quick work of them.it doesn't take long for a dozen hermits to eat them up.

Good afternoon all from late season snowy jersey. I’m debating which fish to add last to my system and I’d like a dwarf angel. 40 gallon, zoas and lps only, First fish was a royal gramma and second was a neon dottyback. The third and final fish has to be able to hold its own against the dotty but there is plenty of hiding spots. I have a couple fish in mind but I need to hear from real people not reading online fish facts. Who has kept dwarfs with coral, i know the success is low with sps but who has successfully kept dwarfs with lps and which species....and if not what fish do you think should be my last one in the tank. Thanks all

I have an SPS dominant reef 75gal and after adding a flame angel my Acropora never showed polyp extension, I never saw angel nipping them but after removing flame they came out again!!!

I have a Coral Beauty, Lemon Peel & Flame in my 185. The coral Beauty is the smallest by far & went after the Flame who is twice as big the first day I added it even with the lights off but everything was fine the next day. They get along great as do all my Tangs, Regal/hippo, Convict, Mimic Lemon Peel & Chevron. Not sure if I'm just lucky but I have had no issues. Their all different sizes so that might be the reason. They don't bother any of my corals either.

I am going to have to give the opposite opinion lol...I have tried roughly 6 different species of dwarf angels and every one of them had to be removed eventually due to them picking at (and sometimes demolishing) my LPS coral.

I have to agree with this. But I will also say, I am a light feeder, so that could be a contributing factor to my bad luck with them. I have actually told my friend at my LFS not to let me buy any more.

I have a pygmy angel that has been great in my sps / lps tank. He swims constantly, all over the tank and hasn't bothered any coral.

Flame, coral beauty, eiblii, pygmy and any that are classified reef safe.

My favorite is potters and they can be challenging though to both the novice and experienced aquarist based on water conditions, diet and other co-inhabitants.
