Don’t have any “aggressive” fish in my tank and found him this morning like that after months of having this cleaner wrasse swimming around doing its job, any ideas? What could possibly take a bite with such precision?

Sorry for your loss. It definitely looks to me as I me clean bite. What do you have that’s mouth is that size?

well here is what I have now,

a small blue hippo,
atlantic blue tang,
yellow tang,
purple tang,
kole tang
two clowns,
small gobies(firefish, scissor tail, etc) nothing that would do bite like that
adult red margin wrasse
pin tail wrasse
lubbock wrasse (small)
spotted hawk fish
black cap basslet
bicolor blenny

Hmmm...

How old is your tank?

The reason I ask, is if there could possibly be a very large worm in the tank.

I have seen pictures of them a yard long or longer with large enough mouths to do that.

Just a shot in the dark.

That’s what I was thinking that someone took a bite after he died

Tank is a transfer from an older tank, maybe 4 months on this one but a year on old stuff, it’s a fish only tank and doubt any worms would’ve survived a copper treatment I did a few weeks ago. Could be wrong

When my engineer goby was crushed underneath of a rock pile, I found him being picked at by other fish in the tank. Could just be someone took advantage of the wrasse dying from other means.

That is a /really/ smooth mark though.

To me it just looks like the “goodies” have been cleaned out and nobody had a chance to get through the rib cage

what gets me is the bite, such a clean bite, biggest fish in my tank is the purple tang, possibly he was the one?

I'm sorry for your loss.

It is so odd as most fishes love being cleaned by a Bluestreak cleaner wrasse. It even felt good when mine picked at me when my hand was in the tank.

However, my clowns absolutely hated the poor thing and would chase it off all the time.

It is really hard to tell what fish did it if perturbed by its constant attention. If in fact, a fish did it.
