What fish is your kryptonite?

Personally I haven’t found a single person to keep one over a few months. I’ve read they do not do well in captivity. They are absolutely beautiful tho!
I've had mine for well over a year. It's thriving in my 100 gallon cube.

The hardest fish to acclimate and care for are sharks and rays in my experience. So I stopped offering to build such tanks for customers. Most of the other fish come down to the source of the livestock. In most cases lose rates were about 1-3% of a shipment. I tried to avoid fish from the Philippines due to the prevalent use of cyanide in collection of ornamental fish in the past and this seemed to help a great deal on survival rates.

Believe it or not, in my freshwater which is 65 gal, Rams. Tried em on 3 separate occasions, two regular one yellow. The only other cichlid is a Bolivian Ram, no fighting, everything else is small community fish.
They make it about a year. I have many fish in there 4 or 5 years, neons, even 3 pygmy cats, the Bolivian Ram all do fine but I gave up on the German Ram.
Also the dwarf gourami. They only make it 6 or 7 months.

Should be left in the ocean, IMHO

I agree completely that is why I returned at least one Nurse Shark to the collector for release after several years in a 1000 gallon tank. Cost some coin but in the end was the right to do.

Red Sea Regal!!!!! my dream fish but is spurns me at every turn!!!!
We should have @alton do a thread on acclimating them. I think he's kept 14 or so successfully over the years.
Your best bet is the Maldives Medium size Juveniles that start showing up on the market late February. They are pretty bullet proof and they look just like their redsea cousins.

I can't contribute to this thread- i think that is a good thing! So far as long as the fish is halfway healthy upon arrival and makes it through QT i haven't lost a fish yet. Outside the jumpers before i became a screen top believer and 1 old age death.

Copperbanded butterfly for me. I habe never had one make it out of quarantine...
