What fish to add after a yellow tang.....?

So currently in my 90 gallon long, ive added in order are
2 ocellaris clowns
Yellow goby and pistol pair
Than just 1 yellow tang

Ive always heard that it can be tricky adding fish after yellow tangs, so i was curious if somepne can give me some ideas on different species i can add with little to no aggression since now the tang has its territory established......thanks in advance! Oh and reef safe

I think all fish can be different, but Ive had a yellow tang for over 2 1/2 years and have added many new tangs and other fish without any issues at all from him.

My Yellow tang is just very docile and pleasant and doesn't bother any other fish, and i have added and have lots of different species, but they are all reef safe and friendly.

Thats cool, my tang is mostly calm but if i go near his 'spot' he flair up wondering what im doin, but has always bern peaceful with other tank mates.....for example what kind of fish personally have you added after a yellow tang?

Have a look at my build thread in the signature below and you will see what I have

Triggers, wrasse, anthias, loads of Tangs of different sizes, Dwarf Angels..... I like fish !lol

The Yellow Tang was one of my first fish, so the others are mainly new to him

If you have the pods and time for it, a mandarin. Most other fish don't seem to notice them.

Yeah a green Mandarin kind if stuck out to me!!! Seemed like a very beautiful fish!!!

The tang will mostly only care about new deep-bodied fish, like other tangs, foxface/rabbit, angels, butterflies, etc.

The mandarin is a good idea. Others would be hawkfish, wrasses, blennies, cardinals, and others.

Yeah a green Mandarin kind if stuck out to me!!! Seemed like a very beautiful fish!!!

They are gorgeous. It does take a bit of work to get them eating frozen as well which seems to be the trick to keeping weight on them but it's definitely worth it.

Perhaps a dwarf angel, 2 or 3 wrasse, and call it a day! The yellow tang is most likely to be aggressive to tang additions, similarly-shaped fish, and fish that compete for it’a food sources directly — in that order.

Being it’s a sole tang, it is more likely to be troublesome.

me and the family have always called the mandarines the, "The Hummingbird of the Sea", bc of how their fins look like they are flapping really fast in the water but really just the pattern of colors making it look that way, i beleive, maybe lol , sounds good haha

and also, although i prob do have plenty of bio bc i dont have that many fish, were still only looking to add just one lucky fish......hypothetically, if we did go with a mandarine, after i drip acclimate the little guy, would it prob be a overall good idea to put him in one of those clear small containers for a day or so so the tang and clowns could get used to him being in the tank?

How about none. My Yellow Tang claimed my entire 90 after about a month in the tank. Pretty fish, but they are big time buttheads in any tank less than 5-6 feet in length (and even then they can still be jerks).

I agree with you in a sense man. Mine is friendly with tank mates, even when feeding....its me he starts to bow up at when my hand gets anywhere near where he sleeps at night lol

I honestly wouldn't unless it was only for a few minutes becuase that's time the mandarin isn't eating. Either drip aclimate and then release or quarantine/train to eat frozen/fatten up in a smaller tank with lots of pods and live rock for a couple weeks.

Out of curiosity, how big is yours? As I understand it they do better when smaller and then when they hit about 4-5 inches start displaying attitude. Mine was right in that range.

hes prob about 3 inches now got him im ballparking around 2 inches....tangs are retarted weird and moody lol sounds familiar haha.....what do you guys think about a yellow eyed kole tang thats 3 inches?

A Kole tang should be ok because he is a different body shape. To help guarantee no aggression try to find one slightly bigger than your yellow Tang.
Make sure you QT any Tang because of how succeptible to illnesses they are.

Great thread with terrific thoughts and recommendations.

If you really want to play it safe just remove the yellow tang to the fuge area for a little while, intro new fish and add the yellow back in. It doesn't hurt to do the reintroduction after lights out as well. So the timing could make a difference.

Just a suggestion to err on the side of caution but probably really not necessary.
