What have you done to your system today?

Added many frags lol. need a bigger tank now can't wait till spring. I have to get over wanting one of everything. My tank is going to end up on an episode of hoarders.

Spencer: yes, a UV sterilizer will definitely decrease the amount of beneficial bacteria in your system OVER TIME. That's really the key to it. You have the UV hooked up but don't run it all the time. You only turn it on when you see signs of ich on your fish and for a little while after. It really does help, as does garlic!

For the garlic question, I have no idea if they'd eat chopped up garlic but I doubt it. I just add that garlic extract (that you get a reef stores) to good quality foods like PE Mysis and soak it for a little bit before feeding.

Rodney: sorry I named off all the tangs you want. But those tangs really do get too big for tanks like ours ultimately anyways, ya know? We've got the same size tank and that's our biggest limitation for fish...short tank length. But there's still plenty of smaller beautiful and in my opinion much more functional (and really better behaved) tangs than hippos and powder blues. Just look at how wonderfully functional and mild-mannered the Koles are. Their beauty is underappreciated in my opinion too. I'll take a non-blue tang that's going to keep my rocks completely picked clean over a jerkish blue-colored, non-algae eating tang aaaaany day of the week.

The 72 is doing well rob. Haven't lost any other fish. Everybody is eating well and looks happy. Also,
I had a kole tang once and he was a bully. He killed a couple fish and kept my rocks clean but I had to sell the only evil kole tang in history apparently.

I have never heard of a mean Kole tang????

I have heard one other person say their Kole tang was mean but those stories are few and far between. It's waaaay more common to hear about horrible powder blues or even Zebrosoma tangs.

Ok. We'll not much big happening with the tanks at our house....basic maintenance. We water changed all the tanks. 10 out of the 30, 10 out of the RSM (which interestingly looks like about half the water volume), and 30 out of the 120.

Also, Rob will be happy to know that I fed the tank. That's two feedings two weeks in a row. Man, I hate dumping food in the tank while fighting algae. For those of you who don't know...I basically almost never feed. Rob and I argue about it constantly: whether it's better to have lots of fish that you feed constantly or to have only a few fish that you never feed. I will concede that his method (which also happens to be Randy's) is working WAY better than mine. Boo.

So I'm getting ready to get some more fish and start feeding more. I still don't think I'll feed as often as Rob and Randy but at least it will be more than never.

This is Dapple, I have been feeding my tank everyday now cause I have a lot more fish. My tank is rocking now. No algae growths. My tank is pretty sweet now. SPS is growing good as well.

Ich still there in the 72. Added a deep blue submersible 18 watt uv sterilizer hope it gets rid of the ich. It may have a spread to my nano some how.

10 Gallon water change. Replaced filter media. Emptied protein skimmer cup. Vacuumed sand and cleaned the glass.

How many of you have the dreaded DAMSEL fish. I have 6 of them and I was told they were a nuisance but I like them. My six line is far more aggressive than them. I hope you can cure your ich Cory , I've been there and if you have fish that make it through keep them cause they are tough little fellows.

Berry is that a 24 gal cube ?

I don't think anything eats cyano. Also, I hate damsels. If they're not aggressive now, just wait...they will be.

I've got the tank under control, it's just a waiting game now. I'm basically waiting for it to recover. These things happen. I'm not super worried about it.

I added some sticks from Battlecorals today. Some really nice pieces and bigger than your average frags from most vendors. I'll get pictures up once they settle in a little.
