how do you like the reef octopus system? i'm thinking about a non AIO nanoish tank and crossed that one, or an elos tank. or just having it custom made.

I really like it. I was looking for something small that I could put in my basement, which is where we spend most of our time. What I like about this one is that it doesn't have a back compartment so the display area is deeper. I've had several AIOs and each had to be mod'd. This one doesn't. It's designed to work with a good skimmer, light sump and pump without sacrificing performance and no upgrades needed.

The Elos tanks are super nice but nothing compares to a custom made tank as long as you have the $$. My last tank was a 90g custom made and I loved it. I had to sell it when I moved back to TN and still miss it.

Good luck!

Replaced RO membrane and DI resin. Nothing much with the tank; that is reserved for Sat. morning. It takes about 15 minutes on a 60 gallon tank. Much better than the hours I used to spend on the 320. Small tanks definitely make the hobby enjoyable again.

Due to crappy test kit my nitrates were sky high. Changed out 115 gallons last night. It took about 30 minutes. Dave...what did you do, use buckets to change the 320? :) I have a 3/4" drain valve on my sump and use a mag9 to fill back up.

Took both reactors offline to try and raise phosphate. Picked up a rainbow pociliopora small colony and a decent frag of strawberry lemonade from AM that i think came from cee? but im not entirely sure. nice frags though.

I am going to be able to start my 125 Build thread tonight. I will post the first pic in a little bit. The empty tank is now in my living room!

See now THAT'S when you start a build thread...when you've actually got the tank.

Congratulations Gladfelter. Looking forward to it.

As opposed to what Mel? I've missed something somewhere... Who is doing a build without a tank?

Anyway, I added a sweet Dragon Soul Favia that I traded Ole Man for. Thanks a bunch Buddy!

Actually Rodney, what I'm saying is that I don't see the point in having a build thread for a tank until you actually have a tank. I thought I stated it pretty clearly.

That offends you in some way, apparently?

removed my old eshopps sump and vinyl plumbing to make way for a new atomic reef sump and hard pipe. going to try to go all threaded fittings so i dont have to glue anything. also going to clean up the electrical and try to hide cords and stuff. if anyone knows where to find an old thread or pics to give me ideas on how to best achieve the clean look i'm going for let me know! I'm all ears. Or eyes.

Sean's tank is hard piped. My old tank was hard piped. Sometimes I think that's the way to go. I'll be interested in what you think of it.

Not today, but yesterday I added gfo and biopellets. I also made a manifold for everything and built a 10g tank for my blackworms. :D

I go hard piped for the most part. I like to thread unions, ball valves, and bulkheads due to their cost, so I can reuse them again. Coming off all sumps, I have threaded bulkheads and valves, so I can take piping off without draining the sump volume. I don't much like threaded fittings ecause they tend to loosen ip when you bump them.

any ideas on how to control the wires other than zipties and velcro? or where in town to get the 3/4 sch 80 gate valves BRS sells?

I don't know where to get them. I use ball valves for everything but my skimmer drain because it needs precise control. I use zip ties for wirss.

Lord no. I'm certainly not offended. I was just wondering what you were talking about. I know some people start build threads before they actually have the tank, due to the amount of preparation it takes for their particular setup. For instance, some people have to have a stand built, run electric, frame walls, etc. I guess it would be akin to saying that someone wasn't building a house because they didn't have the roof sitting in the yard waiting to go on while they were digging the footers. You always start with the foundation, correct?

Wow! I thought you always built the roof first so it would be easyer to put the house in the dry? what do think Sluff!.....LOL

I guess so Buddy! I figured a build started at the inception. The very first part of building a house for instance, is planning and having an architect design the house.

I understand that "residential" size tanks are often easily purchased in a "kit". Larger "commercial" size tanks are a different creature. A 1500 gallon volume system is a totally different build than say my 120 gallon with a 40 breeder sump.
