The temperature swing could have occurred during transport from the wholesaler. This time of year they use cooling packs, and it's possible his bag was right up against one and that dropped the temp more so than any of the other fish. Just a theory, of course, but it would explain why he is showing signs of gas bubble disease even though none of the other fish are.

Im still wondering though - if that was all gas - would he not have a hard time not floating?

True, the fish should at the very least be swimming erratically.

Remember those yellow tangs I got in a while back that had those weird bubbles on their fins? This reminds me of that, only on an extreme scale. I believe I cleared that up with antibiotics

You can just see them in this video on the dorsal. This is extremely mild compared to the OP's picture of course, but it's what I was reminded of looking at that picture. Remember this?

@melypr1985 I do remember that now! You need to convince the store to buy you a microscope so you can take skin scrapes when weird stuff like this pops up.
