What is on my fish?

Got a blue striped butterfly through mail order yesterday and notices something on the top of it's back. any ideas what it is and how to treat it?

It could be a bacterial growth of some kind then.

The fish looks sorta splotchy and skinny. Is this an accurate observation or just a trick of the camera?

Fish is very small at only 2 inch, yes it is skinny now. The blotches are just stress related.

That looks like a growth or abscess to me in those photos!

10 mins.... Wow, he was probably so darn happy to get back into the saltwater!!! Beautiful fish... hope the outcome is positive!!! Good luck!

This fish is known to look blotchy when stressed. I've owned this before and that will go away with time, but it is skinny and that white stuff on him is concerning.
