They can get to be several inches long. They are beneficial. They keep the gunk out of the rocks.

It's really cool to look at that rock it's got feather dusters and bristle worms and the dreaded aptasia but they are all out right now just hanging out in the current

yes, theyre fine. You just contro'll the population. I get the big ones out and never feel bad if I throw them out. But I dont hunt them. Its passive.

Yea the hitchhikers are what sucked me in. Mostly harmless so far, mostly beneficial. My 30 gal CUC is all hitchhiker. Except two snails and one crab. I dont know how he got in there.

Most likely the worst thing you got was brown flatworms,,acoels. If you see a bloom, dont freak. If you get a big bloom, call us.

I believe he meant that one of the worst hitch-hikers you can introduce with that rock are Flatworms.

Asterina star: Some types have the potential to reproduce so fast they become invasive, rarely some types are coral eaters. Most are harmless algae grazers, some do eat coralline algae. It's one of cooler hitch-hikers but I prefer not to keep them as I have higher end zoanthids and I do not want their number to get out of control. The majority of hobbyist remove them or rehome them to be on the safe side.
