Went to a coral swap today and this fellow sold me what he called a yellow Montipora. I’m not seeing any montiporas that look like this online. I’m new to SPS and felt pressured to but it when he started telling my what a good deal $25 was, while the line built up behind me. This was also my first coral swap... learning experience.
So... what is it?

Thanks all! There was no polyp extension when I bought it... I’m leaning toward favia based upon that but would be happy if it turned out to be Goni.
Here’s something... I blasted off a bit of algae I noticed on it after I put in my DT after dip and acclimation. A few of the craters appeared to immediately lose their color and I just see fuzzy white skeleton. Upper right in pic.

Nope not a Goni. I get them in all the time and NEVER look like that. Its a war coral.
Lol, ok. Your right man. Not gonna argue but I'd make sure you actually are getting in goniopora to begin with. Just sayin.....there are different types of goniopora incase you didn't know that have different polyp sizes.

Is there common etiquette with these coral swap events? Im a little salty he claimed it was a monti and concerned he sold me a coral in poor health.

He straight up lied to you or he doesn't know what coral he has. I'd be salty too. Possibly his fragging methods could have damaged the coral to begin with too.
