Aren’t they the same thing?
They are but sapphire is Indonesia and springier indo pacific- same region. Some wholesalers call them separate names while some classify as springieri why I said a maybe but should

Is there a way to tell the difference?
You posed a good question and I contacted a wholesaler and he said generally the sapphire can have less black but both are Chrysiptera genus and its a matter of what name they are given via wholesaler /retailer when on in-stock lists but the common trade name is Springieri
