What is your tank's current nemesis?

I have coral eating whelks.... No idea where they came from but they showed up one day. They like SPS with long polyps. I’ve removed 50+.... manually. They killed a few corals before I recognized it was them doing the damage.

What!?! They look like normal snails

Yep whelks look identical to nassarius snails. Have the same snout and everything. They’re just not quite as fast and active

Oh no. I wish they were. They come out at night and I find them crawling on my corals. They go from great PE to stark white skeleton left behind them. I posted a thread on here a while ago and nobody could provide a positive ID. I even gave some to a friend and he experimented with them. As soon as he dropped a frag in with them they would be all over it eating the polyps I guess. Here's a pic of a birdsnest where I pulled one of the whelks off.

Mine is a 20 year old Damsel who was my first saltwater fish that cycled my current tank. He was 1/2" when I got him and now he's 4-5".

Everything I add to the tank, he checks it out, bullies it and then moves it. Any frag I add must be glued down or it is on the tank floor by the next morning. Once he realizes it is glued, he leaves it alone. Same with new fish. Drives me crazy. Bites me every time I put my hand in the tank. He's going to loose his happy home one of these days.

My Clown Tang attacks my hand! I won the battle though i now wear coral life gloves and he doesent bother me! the gloves are great!

Mine is vermetid snails. My last tank had hundreds of these that came and went. My current tank that's 6 months old started with mostly dry rock, dry sand, and a few pieces of carefully inspected live rock. All corals and frags were also inspected and dipped, yet I'm now experiencing a booming population of them.

Last week I got an Apex alert that my backup ATO float switch was on. Went in for inspection and saw the main float switch still in the low position. Pulled the switch and notice a vermetid snail had grown on it and jammed it. Also today I decided to do a frag mounting session as all the frags were doing good where I placed them. Didn't pick up a piece of live rock or frag that didn't have a snail on it.

I think they're multiplying because of my increased feedings to try and raise nutrients. Hopefully once I achieve that and find a nice balance I can back off and the population will be more manageable like my last tank.

What are you currently dealing with and how do you plan on remedying?

I have these- bad breakout all over the tank and i have a 180 with over 200 lbs of live rock. i listened to all advise probably the best is cutting down on food. everytime i am in the tank i break those things off with a credit card where ever i can....its been a few months now and i think i may have progress--- they are getting darker and smaller-- and less.. im hoping i am coming to the end of this problem soon!

My current nemesis is heat. Bleaching in fact. All of my coralline algae was plating and looking spectacular then last week we got a heatwave and now everything that was purple is now white. It happened so fast that I watched it. I didn't even get time to set up my chiller. Shattered . The fish were fine which is probably why I didn't pick up on it for a while. Tank got up to 29.5 deg cel.

Oh, man. I seem to have been overrun in the last 2 months! It's like something new every week, despite the fact that I haven't introduced anything new in a while. I'm seeing vermetid snails, pineapple sponges, bubble algae, aiptasia, and something I haven't conclusively identified yet, that looks like white hair algae. But it's not all bad--I am also seeing an explosion of copepods and a few isopods, a bristleworm, and several brittle stars. How is that possible? If I weren't the only person who ever touches the tank, I would think someone was playing tricks...

Red turf algae! It’s growing on my overflow and power heads. Now starting on the rock a bit. I thought it was Cyanobacteria at first, but this stuff will not come off or suction up like cyano does.
