What kind of algae is this?

I would not unless I was starting a new tank and needed a way to seed coralline. You already have some so we just need to make it happy and it will spread like wild fire.
Sounds good to me. I dosed pink n purple when I was cycling the tank, and when I noticed it actually growing I dosed pink n purple again n since then it has grown significantly. So I’ll let it go on it’s own.

I use reef crystals.
I would shoot for 1300-1350 on the magnesium. Sometimes the RC salt will get you there but I think it’s more common to see mag in the low 1200 with that salt.

I thought you’d find it funny maybe that after scrubbing my tank and cleaning blah blah, did my 10%. I just finished but the back of my hob, my dummy never realized water would get down below the removable basket, and let me just say the smell was god earful and explains the extra nutrients and god awful smell in my house I haven’t been able to find.

Bingo! Glad to hear it, I’m sure that algae will lose strength as a result of your find.

I’m gonna assume so as well haha. Silly mistake, i see why hobs are known as nitrate factories. Not for me anymore. Gonna rinse it out every water change for now on.

Since my water change a ton of this algae has turned white, is that a sign I killed more of it than I was able to get out of the tank? Which for reference was not a lot as the stuff don’t wanna come off unless it’s grown out into a chunk.

Yes when algae turns white like that it means it’s dead or dying

It was actually turning white when I started scraping at it with a razor. Like I pulled a film off the top idk if that makes sense.
Yea it sounds like it was on its way out. Must have helped consume the nutrients and started to starve

Well good maybe this won’t be so hard to get rid of then. Now I just need to go get me a wrasse to get this feather duster farm in check. So pretty but have became such a eyesore imo. Thank you once again!

Cool keep it up and monitor those nutrients now that, you won’t have all that algae to help consume them for you.

Are you sure this is byprosis and not gha? It’s not wanting to go away.

Good way to tell the difference is if you look at the hairs, gha will be straight with single strands, bryopsis will have branching strands off itself. Most cuc won’t touch bryopsis making it more difficult to remove

I went n got a handful of hermits today n they are going to town. I took a real good look and I actually think it is turf algae. It’s very short and thick, and nearly impossible to remove if it’s not grown out. What turned white before is now mostly gone but still a crap load in the tank. I do have nutrients popping up now at 10 nitrates and .25 phosphates.

My plan I’m gonna stick to is weekly 10% water changes, scrubbing and cleaning the rocks weekly along side the w/cs. I’m gonna put ogo in the display and order some chaeto for the filter, run my skimmer 24/7 even if it’s not pulling out a lot that I can notice it sure it’s pulling out some. Just keep at it while coralline takes over which is doing currently just not as fast I’m sure it will do once I’m getting rid of the algae. And get one of those algae scrubbers that attach to the hob.
Before cleaning the rocks, you should have something in place to capture the algae, such as a sock or sponge then remove it about a half hour after cleaning,. If you keep doing this the hair algae will subside.

I have been scrubbing algae off the glass rocks and moving the sand a little bit right before doing a 10% water change. I also grab and remove what I can with my hands.would putting a filter sock over my filters intake work to help like your suggesting to capture of the algae? I’ve been letting my filter run for about 30 mins before cleaning it out after the water change.

So I thought you’d like an update! I increased my cuc a tiny bit, as I noticed most had died off for whatever reason. I have been using peroxide on the rocks, 1-2 rocks a day every few days this past week. (Which works amazingly on whatever algae this actually is) I have been doing 2-3 water changes a week of 10% (actually like 13% but whatever). I pick and scrap daily at the algae. I removed much of the sand bed that was rocky covered in algae. I clean the filter back out weekly. I have started dosing vibrant once a week (twice this week bc I’m really pushing to get all this crap gone.) I have a steady nitrate at about 10 and phosphate about .25-.5. I have been making sure not to kill off too much algae at once as I don’t want a nutrient spike and not kill too little that the algae could get a grip. Anyway, I also bought 40 more lbs of dry preseeded rock I plan on reaquascaping in a week or two. My red ogo died pretty rapidly not to sure why so I never actually started with any macro. I have plans for a new stand to be diy made by me and my boyfriend so I can eventually swap over to a sump. Anyway! All is well and actually the algae is making a smooth exit without crashing anything with nutrients. On a side note I added this Melanurus wrasse bc he was so dang cute I couldn’t resist and I hate the dang feather dusters which he doesn’t seem to be eating yet.
