What makes the Neptune APEX controller worth $799.00

is it very reliable and the probes are accurate, will it make reefing much easier?

I travel and just looking for everyone's pros and cons on the unit.

regards, D
I'm away from my tank 5 days a week for work it allows me to control anything I plug into it even if it's not an apex device you can use the plugs as on and off switches or timers it also has alarms to let you know hey this is high or that is low so that you can dose the right stuff how to have a dosing pump it will control that as well

did you buy the $799.00 one - i have heard not so good reviews of the probes.

I chose the apex el because review of salinity probes are poor and i have no use for orp probe. Its nice to see how much $ my equipment is costing me a month on apex.

yes, only issue with the EL is not 0-10v capability and i have Octo pumps.

Yeah I have nothing that uses 0-10v, but you can buy a module for that and still cost less than full version.

I'd also look for a used unit. I picked up a used $799 for almost $300 cheaper on R2R. You can even get a used Apex classic for around $250-300.

I'm thinking a visual will help here. Because it can monitor all this reliably and easily!! Makes reef keeping practical. I can travel and still know exactly what's going on with my tank and make adjustments as needed.

The honest short answer is nothing...
At this point apex is just a temp control and on off switches.
Most of my equipments are controlled other means.
Apex have became too expensive, many reliability issues and keep changing.

its an awesome piece of equipment it makes reefing easy it really is a do all tool it took me 4 years to finally bite the bullet and buy one im glad i waited also because i have the newest version. since its purchase my knowledge of my tank and reefing period has raised to a new level. what i thought i was doing previously worked but not like this i can document everything and im reaching a level of stability with in the tank i would of never of been able to achieve without it. just my 2 cents

Which one did you buy, the EL or standard?

everyone will have a different answer and nothing is perfect. even though this is a hobby grade controller it does a great job helping to automate almost everything. I personally dont think i would want to do without a controller and apex seems to be the best choice in my opinion. you will be happy with it i believe.

Many people fail to understand that your Apex configuration/communication is cloud hosted, which can be expensive for manufacturers, and Neptune provides this free of charge. Seneye on the other hand is cheaper, does less, and charges monthly for the cloud portion. That all said, having access to my tank via the web, mobile device etc, is very important, and it works amazing. If Neptune wanted, they could reduce the price per unit and charge for the hosting, but they don't - simple pricing is better imo. Flat rate buys you piece of mind.

Well, since rhe salinity probe is not so good and orp is only necessary if you are running ozone the choice is to buy the EL is the better choice . THANKS ALL
