Was taking a flashlight peek at the tank this evening, and we noticed this thing in the live rock. I peruse this section of the forums frequently to stay educated, however I don’t believe I’ve ever seen this.

I have yet to see it fully out of the rock, but it appears to have a sac, with something attached to it. Silver-ish in color with red/brown stripes on it. I apologize for the poor photos, I was unable to get anything to focus properly as it’s tiny (maybe 1/2cm in circumference for the sac, 2-3mm of “arms” that I saw, could be longer).

The tank is just over a year old, there have been no additions since August.

Nerite snail eggs?
D

Unlikely in my opinion. I do have some little baby snails, believe cerith that must have hitchhiked in (100s of em). This looks unlike any snail I’ve ever seen as it doesn’t appear to have a hard shell. I also haven’t been able to see a “body” on it, there’s multiple extensions coming out of the rock as well. Possible these are 2 separate things in a coincidental area.

Stock list:

Oscellaris Clown
6 line wrasse
Cleaner shrimp
Blue leg hermits
Pincushion urchin
Turbo & Nassarius snails

If talking about big white thing. Looks like a pineapple sponge to me. Very common harmless

This is what I’d initially thought, but from what I’ve seen of pineapple sponges they seem to have an almost fuzzy texture whereas this looks smooth. There’s texture to the outside, but unable to make it out. Additionally, there appears to be a “body” of sorts attached.

I meant an egg not an actual snail. Lol. .d

Hahah, well then… I’ll have to research size, but this things probably half the size of my pinky nail. That’d be quite an egg!

Looks like a baby cowrie snail or collanista snail

I agree what you are saying on fuzzy but I seen ones like this which I believe are just maturing I am pretty confident it is a pineapple sponge. Shape and funnel on top is a dead giveaway. Who knows people are seeing snails I must be going crazy!! Lol

Will have to do some digging on this one. Did you see the video I’d posted above? I’m hoping it’s a snail of sorts, but would be unlike any I’ve ever see.
If they are, they will move when the lights go out

It may be coincidental there’s 2 things in the same area. If you view the video I’d just uploaded you can see some extensions of what looks like a body coming out of the rock next to the sac.

I feel like I’m going crazy trying to ID this thing!

I agree with you they are 2 different things. Not the first thing that drove me crazy in this hobby. Lol

btw is the location I’m a shaded spot when lights are on? Looks like in a cave of sorts! Is so most likely pineapple sponge and the thing I’m seeing right next to it that looks like it retracted a little in video May look like an aptasia. Hope not. But very hard to tell on that one

It is in a cave!
Regarding the other… there’s many things I don’t know, but I’m fairly confident that’s not aiptasia. Like others I’ve fought the battle so I am familiar with how it looks.
