What orientation do you have your UV mounted in?

I'm getting ready to mount my UV sterilizer and was wondering what orientation other people have theirs in? I can mount mine either vertically or horizontally.

Horizontally would require less plumbing, but the plumbing would be kind of crazy.
 
Horizontal using silicone tube to the manifold.

Well I thought vertical was better. But either way just remember to have enough room to pull the bulb out to change it. Clean it.
Would need the same amount of length as the uv.also my understanding if mounted horizontal should have it angled slightly for the air to get out.

Mounting the Vessel Note: The way UV vessels are mounted/positioned plays a very important role in the unit’s performance and degree of safety. We STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you follow these instructions and guidelines precisely. Any deviation from these mounting instructions will void any warranty associated with the UV vessel and all its components and may cause unsafe conditions. Trapped air inside the UV vessel during operation may create excessive heat thus damaging internal components.

Vertical Vessel Mounting Mount the SMART UV Disinfection Sterilizer with the electrical end up. Use the bottom port as the inlet with the top port as the outlet.

Note: The UV vessel must be installed with a vertical clearance 1½ times the vessel length. This will allow sufficient room for servicing the unit and replacing the UV lamp and/or quartz sleeve. The inlet and outlet plumbing MUST be supported to avoid vessel material stress. Failure to support the inlet and outlet plumbing may lead to damage to the vessel.

That's good info, thanks. I have a Lifegard unit and it did not say anything about mounting in the printed instructions. I did however just find a video by them that talks about it towards the end.

Interesting as I have mine the exact opposite. Inlet at the top, and outlet at the bottom(vertical mounting). Haven't had an issue with it yet.
 
I’m vertical, but inlet on the bottom and output on the top.
This way, it can never have an air space.
Water passing a light, can’t see how that would really matter as long as the pipe is full at all times.

Now I'm thinking about mounting it vertically with the inlet on the bottom and outlet on the top like @Uncle99 has his. Not only does that make it so that air is pushed out as it is filled, it makes it easier to drain when it needs to be serviced once a year.

Horizontal It just made more sense.
 
Horizontal for me as it fit nicely behind the cabinet, yet there is still room to change the bulb and sleeve...although I am not looking forward to that upcoming task. lol

It made sense because of the space I had, yes. It also seamed more logical that it would retain water in the event of a pump failure, so it would not run dry and cause the quartz sleeve shatter. Maybe I was overthinking it but it made sense to me at the time.
I have a Lifeguard 25 watt - that thing is a beast. It weighs a ton. Truly, in hindsight, I would have bought something else.

I did think about water staying in a horizontally mounted UV. Then I thought if the pump went out, the stagnate water would just continue to heat up until something was damaged anyways. I also was thinking about putting a check valve on the inlet side of a vertically mounted UV for just this same kind of issue.

I considered that also. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do this. (unless the manufacturer stipulates a designated orientation.
One thing that I would recommend is making sure that the UV and the pump run on the same circuit. If you trip a breaker, make sure that they both power off together.
