What polyps are these and how to I eradicate them?

Hi all,

These came on a rock 2-3 years ago and now cover 2/3 of my entire tank, and even part of my overflow. They’re mostly light brown with slightly greenish centers and even a minute tinge of blue on the outside. I hate these more than aiptasia or even majanos.

I feel like I need to restart everything . Is there any other option that isn’t a ton of work? Guessing not.

1) What are they called
2) Eradication stories/ideas?

@HotRocks OD’d his tank with vibrant and riddled them from his tank but took some fish and other corals with it.

I’d like better cheap coral than a whole tank covered inch to inch with this trash!

Pics? I have what I think are the same in my 120.
I just put kalk paste on them and that seems to keep them from spreading. Cant get to all of them but it keeps them in check.
F aptasia or aptasia x works for me. F aptasia is thicker and stays in place but both work.
I only do a few at a time.

I think he said it covered a majority of his tank. Being in a similar issue with the green nuclear pally's I'm looking for the Gaudy Clown crab (Platypodiella spectabilis). I have heard they eat zoa's and pally's. May not be at the pace I would like but seems like a natural predator and worth a try.

Problem is difficult to find. KP used to carry but hasn't in a while. Reef cleaners only gets a few in a year. Don't recall the last one and when exchanging emails they could only say sign up for the alert. Never came

If you can remove the rock take it out and let the Sun take care of it. You could also remove the rock outside and grab a pair of 8 - 12" forceps and manually remove (of course wearing the proper ppe and being outside or other ventilated area). My Coral Beauty takes care of my zoa's but hasn't touched the Pally's...

Palythoas. I think they call those Texas trash palys.

I don't know how I would deal with such a mess, maybe start with kalk paste and smothering with epoxy. Good luck.

I use F aptasia or aptasia x it works great or I use fresh squezed lemmon juice cold!

With the xenia try using Phosphate remover it appears that xenia need it I wiped them out by just adding a small bag of Phosphate remover they shriveled up and died ..

I use Aptasia X for stuff like this. Treat them like Aptasia and out some on the mouth of the Paly and they should be gone in no time.

I think I have these same things in my tank that I got gifted a while back! I think I’m gonna have to nuke em before they spread like this

Id start removing with foreceps to thin them out before trying to kill them back with other means.
Pull from the base and you might be able to get them to come off in mats...

I've also heard the white / black version of the Pyramid butterflyfish clears Xenia. I think that is the Zoster or black?

Back to Ford (not going to lie that I'm sad the GT350 is no longer being made) - that is a lot now that I see the photos I forgot to ask is this a reef or fish only?

The problem is that if I had to guess, I have tens of thousands of these. Not exaggerating. They cover 2/3 of my entire 180G tank.

I’d need a few weeks off of work and a freight liner full of the stuff for my tank LOL!

It seems like at this point it would be much easier to just remove the few things I want to keep and nuke the rest.

I have also thrown rocks covered in this in to my 500G and it’s gone in a few days. I don’t know which Angel/puffer eats them, but I’ve considered moving all of this rock down to the basement (500G) and trading it out.

If the polyps took over in that tank, I wouldn’t care as it’s not a reef tank and it would be the only coral in there lol.

The back wall on the left side may need appraisal X so that is helpful!

This tank once looked nice, for a fish-focused tank with cheapo easy coral but my focus has been on the other tank, my car hobby, and work (clearly) lol.

Looks similar to what I had. My LFS marketed them as "neon blue zoa" that I bought as a part of a variety pack. It then proceeded to take over the entire rock and smothered all other zoa so I ended up tossing the whole rock before it spread else where.

Wow you have quite the battle. Pretty much everything I was going to suggest is already posted. If you use kalk and aiptastia killing products don’t try getting all of them at once. Im pretty sure even the aiptasia products have an effect on PH if you use a lot.

If you could get clean seeded live rock somewhere I would switch it out. Kill those palys and sell the rock through a local club.
