LFS RO water tested at 13 TDS which I was using for a long time no problems in my tank bought my own 5 stage RO system pumping out at 7 TDS our tap water ranges from 140-170 TDS the LFS runs runs off the same city water I get in my house

I spent 7 years getting my water from the LFS. 2 years ago, I moved, cutting the distance from the same LFS from 8 miles to 2. I told myself “this is supporting my local store, a small business in my neighborhood.” They charge $0.45/gallon for RO. I change 10 gallon at a time, so I was paying $4.50 a week. I got an RODI with my tax return this year, because i can make the same amount (10 gallon) of RODI water for $0.30 worth of water a week (including rejection water, not counting filter costs—we are on septic, don’t pay for sewer, so it’s just watering my backyard).

My wife was FURIOUS this week. She could hear the rejection water going down the drain. “Our water bill is going to go through the roof, isn’t it?!?” I did the numbers for her, and said for $150 I could get a pump, new flush restrictor, and second membrane to reduce the waste water and bring down the cost from $0.30 to $0.18, which would pay for itself in 25 and a half years. She wasn’t impressed but grumbled about finding a catch basin.

I use BRS 6 stage 75 GPD . I have 2 PPM coming out of the RO unit. Been using the original DI cartridges and the first one is just now showing some signs of color change at the bottom. It's been 5 years. I make about 30 gal at a time. During the summer I catch the reject water and use it on the garden and plants. The double RO filter runs very close to 50/50 RO/reject water. My local water pressure is usually 75 PSI so no real need for a booster pump. I also warm the water up to about 75° and that helps the production rate. I had a pressure gauge fail. Called BRS, they checked the purchase date said it was still under the one year warranty and shipped out a new immediately. No need to return the dead one. Couldn't ask for better customer service. It takes 28 minutes to fill a 5 gal jug.

I just received my Liquigen 4-Stage RO that supposedly pumps out 150gpd @ 0TDS. It's comes with a hose adapter. I'm planning on encasing it in a storm case with mounted hookups on the case. It'll be 100% portable. All I'll have to do is pull the hoses out and secure them directly to the case, supply, return, and drain all with QD's. At least that's my plan. Reality might be a completely different story.

BRS 150gpd water saver 4-stage, I added two chambers for a separate anion and cation and can check tds in 4 places. Probably overkill on my 100tds tap water, but I was burning through anion mixed bed media like crazy.

I'm constantly shaking my head at the things some women get upset about. Petty, trivial stuff. A couple 10 dollar bills a month on a hobby? Really????

Would she prefer you were at the bar drinking and perhaps flirting with the cocktail waitress or local fluzzy?

You could get a race car. Tens of thousands of dollars every year, to maintain the car, the truck it takes to tow that car to the track, the entry fees, the fuel and hotel costs......

Radio control airplanes? Minimum $5--$7 thousand every year.... if you want to really enjoy that hobby.

Fishing? Hunting?

Many of those hobbies aren't interesting to women, so it separates you two. But a fish tank keeps you HOME, where you can be with your wife and family.

I'm a blessed man. My wife likes fish tanks, fishing poles, guns and hot rods. We're on the hunt for a 1930's --1940's fat fender coupe or pickup for a resto mod project. She wants to learn how to rebuild an engine and use a welder. I've already taught her how to use a torque wrench, change lubricant in the engine, transmission and differentials, and flush the cooling system.

I was pondering the cost of my other passion...fly fishing. I can price up a GOOD package which would be over $1000 or buy the cheap fly rod and waders for much less. Hand tied flies can add up as well. I don't hunt but know from my buddies that ammunition can be outrageous.

Wait until the wife starts bringing you mattress shopping....luckily she liked the cheapest one yesterday! $406 for a queen, spill protector, delivery and disposal of old mattress.

I think the great thing about RO/DI units is you can get filters anywhere, start small and build up as your needs grow. I'm fortunate about waste water, in the summer it goes to rain barrels outside for my garden.

BRS 7-stage RODI Plus. I live in an area of north western Rhode Island where our water source varies throughout the year and can come from up to seven different wells. There have also been more than a few MBTE cleanup sites in nothern RI as well. Sure, $300 is a lot of money, but clean and stable is the only way to reef.

I started with the Water General RD 102, for the aquarium only no drinking. I later added the BRS 3 stage DI canister upgrade. So I have 1 sediment, 2 carbon block, 1 Membrane, and 3 DI canisters. Works great for me.

I just started reefing a few months ago and initially wrote off some equipment (including an RO/DI) as an unnecessary expense or something to added way down the road; hoping to keep initial costs down.

After looking through the forums and YouTube videos, it became clear that certain pieces of equipment, like an RO/DI and an automatic top off system, were not only relatively inexpensive compared with the rest of the hobby’s equipment, but also universally acclaimed for their usefulness, convenience, and contribution to the tank’s successs.

I bought a @Bulk Reef Supply 6-stage RO/DI and it has performed near flawlessly with only about 2TDS coming out of the RO membrane and if running for at least 20-30min, will actually be 0TDS before the mixed bed DI stages.
