What salt mix do you use?

I noticed a local reefer on here (can't remember who it was) said it is the salt that he uses. I read an old article and decided to try it.

http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-03/rs/feature/

I made a few changes/upgrades to my sump/skimmer during that time (within a few months) so I can't point to any specific differences attributed to just the salt. But there hasn't been any noticeable negative difference either.

FWIW, many people switched when his article first came out, but I do not believe there was any consensus that there was any improvement in most tanks.

I am using Red Sea Coral Pro and my tank looks amazing, grows really fast, and great color. I use it because of all the extra stuff in it which I know is there because you have to use more of the mix to get the same salinity. Plus I don't want to have to add Alk and Ca in water change, convenience is priceless. As well as dosing trace elements and all the other stuff in RSCP at the rate that it gets used is a practical impossibility, so doing water changes with it already at the right quantities/proportions is the key there. I live in a remote area and so haven't seen many other reefers tanks but I can tell you, that out of the 6 other tanks I have seen, of which use IO or IORC, my coral has brighter color, longer polyp extension, and grows faster. But maybe I am just biased cuz its mine ;) Or it could be any of many other reasons (one guy uses tap water lol). I just think it adds a little extra spice. What do you other guys think that are using RSCP?

Randy, you really use just regular IO? And you obviously have great success as you clearly know what you are doing. Good color, health, and growth? How do you handle all the trace element dosing/testing? What do you dose? What do you add in water change water?

I don't keep an SPS tank, but the details of what I keep and how are here:

So for SPS is RSCP the best (NOT super low nutrients)?

IMO, it makes little difference what salt mix you use. As long as you know its pros and cons (all have them), then assuming you act accordingly, you will be successful.

There is no best salt mix.

I also think the difference between one salt mix and the other is negligible. If you ask 10 people which is "the best SPS salt mix" you're going to get at least 4 different answers. :) I use H2Ocean because it's a "natural" seasalt, but it drives me nuts as the alkalinity has risen over the years - now testing 9.5-10.5 dKH. My tank is ULNS SPS and I have a bucket of Aquaforest Probiotic Reef Salt ready to go probably around March when my last bucket of H2Ocean will be used up. The two Aquaforest reef salts have NSW values which is beneficial for ULNS. If you're not ULNS, I'd just use whatever is cheapest/easiest to find in stock. :)
