What skimmer should I get?

is there anything wrong with pinwheel octopus skimmer? I ask because if it work well then ill do that because it is on the cheaper side of a super reef

I really like my octopus skimmers. I ran a dnwb-110 on my display which was a 46g bowfront with 20g sump and an nwb-110 on my frag system which is a 30g tank with 20g sump. Both skimmers have performed very well for me and I have had little to no problems with either. The in sump (nwb-110) can be a bit sensitive to changes in water level which rarely happens in my system. I recommend octopus skimmers to a lot of people and can't see myself using anything different.
As far as the difference between the regular reef octopus skimmers and the SRO skimmers, the difference is in the pump. The bubble blaster pumps are great pumps and very efficient. I think you will be happy with either choice. I will be running my dnwb-110 on my rebuild which will also be a 57 rimless.

Get this one:bigsmile:

Or something smaller...

I just picked up a BM curve 5, I had the RO nwb-110 I think the BM pulls way more stuff out and is not so sensitive to water height changes.

That's the one I decide on getting!!!

So you're liking the BM curve 5?

With the reefoctopus nwb 110 and 150, that is the only thing I would call a "Con" is the sensitivity to water level changes, but I run an ato so it's never a problem. But I could see someone without an ato having an issue with it.

I had an Eshopps and was not overly satisfied. ran well but i dont think ill go back

gonna do either bubble magus or octopus probably octopus!

That's funny because I had an octopus prior to the eshopps, and I like the eshopps a little better. Don't get me wrong the Octos are great skimmers, mine just never seemed to work well.

I'm actually going to set it up in my 75g qt tank in the next few days. Should work perfect for a low bio load.

Glad I followed this post. My AquaC has worked good for me but it is dated. I've read in some other places that these newer skimmers pull more air. Good info.

so far I love it very quite and it pulls out way more crap than my RO did, I had a lot of trouble with my reef octopus nwb110 not saying there bad but I keep reading more people saying they have had trouble with them

I had a Bubble Magus NAC6 for about 5 months. It never pulled much skimmate. I always had a hard time dialing it in just right. I eventually gave up and have been very happy with my SRO. I chose the SRO over the pinwheel because I wanted the Bubble Blaster pump. It's been about 5 months with it and I haven't had a single problem.

I went from a Eshopps to a Coralife, to Reef Octopus XS 160. Love it. LIke others have said, just check ur water depth.

The eshopps skimmers are running Sicce pumps, they're hard to beat and dead quiet. I had an RO XS-160 and found it poorly designed and extremely loud.

In sump skimmers are going to be effected by water height. If your sump has baffles, putting it in the first chamber where the water level is constant will prevent any issues. I've heard a lot of complaints about the Sicce pumps failing and becoming extremely loud. I chose the SRO because they do not use the Sicce pump.

Or get an ATO, if you don't have baffles. I have an open style sump but I use Ato
