Simple question, just wondering what everyone's ideal temp is for their tank.

77.7 for me. I need to get another thermometer and double check what my display is at because my probe is in the sump and sometimes I'm not so sure my display is actually 77.7 but my apex says mine is 77.7 to 78 at all times

for some apparent reason & through the seasons, my place's temperature does not fluctuate much, so no heater. the high is 79 & low is 76. i have noticed that all living things in my tank do prefer 76, thats my observation, but my tank has always been a constant experiment. i have paid the price before, for pushing the envelop, on how much my tank can take on my mad scientist experiments.

Since the move to a very old house my reef temp has been around 74-76. A little drafty in the fish room but new windows will fix that.

Since changing over to LED's my temp is quite stable 77.4 - 78.2 throughout the day, even only to a bit over 79 last Summer when house temp reached the low 90's.

Cheers, Todd

Sounds to me like you should add a heater or two. Did you know that corals stop metabolizing (growing) at temperatures below 76 degrees. At lower temps everything grows (and metabolizes proteins, etc. including ich, and its believed RTN) more slowly also. That's why most reefers keep their reef at around 78. The range that reefers keep their tanks at are from 76-82 F. Very few keep reefs at or above 80 but corals can handle it no problem.

Having said that, I have my Ranco controller set to come on a low set point of 78 and shut off at 79. I have it set to turn on my room AC at 80. I have three 250 heaters to keep my 400G system warm in the Seattle winters with an unheated remote tank room. My AC III usually reads 77-78.

Sorry, not a simple answer.

78 for the most part. Sometimes drops to 76 in the winter months. Tanks in the "bar" 2 car garage converted in my man cave.
