What do you think he is. I have an idea but I want to see what people think before I tarnish the results.

After I get a few responses I'll tell you what he was sold as and where I got him.

Some of the marks are from the shop he was getting beat up good when I found him.

I agree, we thought ether a hybrid Scopus/Black or a very stressed out scopus, but worth the risk. We have had him 3 days now in QT and he is eating and swimming happily. He has shown no sign of turning yellow/Brown at all so far. We bought him as a scopus tang at petco. The first pic is an accurate representation of his usual color.

pretty fish the color it is now . Cudo's for getting him healthy again. Considering where Ya got him, he'll turnout into a beautiful healthy fish for your display.

Probably 'just' a scopas, though the darker coloration and slightly elongated snout does seem a bit long nose black.

Abberate Scopas.... I would love to find one like that! My yellow on the other hand.....

Very pretty Scopas, though.

Hello,

First off lol thanks for saving the poor guy from kill my fishco. It’s amazing how bad the fish are there, feel so bad. The ones here in Idaho are terrible, in which one of my friends has lost every fish she has ever bought there. So yippie on the part of you saving his life.

I would agree with others that it is probably a Scorpias tang. It would be super awesome if it tuned out to be a long nose black tang. Not sure if they would even order one in, but there is always the risk of mix up. Regardless that’s a neat find and he will get gorgeous.

Gem tang?

= Just scopa

I have kept both Scopas and a Black plus I have seen hybrids of the 2 and what you have there is a Scopas.
Just out of curiosity how do you tell the difference between the three?

Scopas has a pattern like yours and fades from a tan/yellowish head to brown tail.

Rostratum (black) is patternless and completely black with a white scalpel. Older/larger specimens display a blueish hue between the body and dorsal fin at times.

Hybrids are a good mix of the two. Usually they have the pattern of a Scopas but are more of a dark gray color.

scopus no doubt. There is No set pattern for any fish, but the genus is the key. Genus here is Scopus

Umm...scopas and black are in the same genus, Zebrasoma.
