So I’m pretty sure I have dinos. It only apprears to be on this large rock in the center. Other rock seems to just have a little green hair algae. Should I just take this rock out? I don’t have any corals. Can my take handle taking out such a large rock?

Anyone have any advice? I hate to pull this rock out and it really do something bad to my tank

Does it blow off with a turkey baster?

also, how old is you tank and what are your nitrates and phosphates testing at?

It does blow off a little. Very snot like. I think I see 2 dead snails that have been on it. Phosphate is zero. And nitrate has been hovering very low to zero sometimes

Snails might not be dead. At least one is not. There are some bubbles but not many.

It may be Dino’s which are toxic and dirt to go is usually snails.

focus on letting nutrients rise.
5-10 nitrates and .04 phosphates as a target.
Dino’s thrive in zero nutrients.

what all are you using for nutrient removal?

Right now just a protein skimmer and chemipure blue. The tank is not that old. I bought it of a guy who kept the rock in water and it didn’t cycle very hard so I started adding a few things. Now this mess.

I would discontinue the chemi pure blue since it's such a young tank. You're going through the nastie stage of your tank. Perfectly normal.

As @mta_morrow has stated, you need some nutrients in your water.

What's your water parameters?

Ca is 360
Phos 0
Nitrate zero right now. It has been up and down. Mostly down
Kh 9
Nitrite 0
Temp 77.5
Salinity 1.026
Ph has vent tested in a while but it’s always been on the low side 7.8

Problem is I’m going to the beach next week. I have someone to feed the fish but they don’t know how to do anything else. I thought maybe if I take that large rock out maybe I could save myself a mess when I come back?

What is the best way to get some nutrients in the water? I feed pellets in the morning and frozen brine in the evening.

leave the rock in and seriously don’t worry about it. feed well. We will help you get things in line when you get back.

turn off your skimmer for a few days and feed as normal.

Ok here is my next question. I have 3 frags in the tank right now. I won 6 frags from the world wid sale this past weekend. They are suppose to deliver Friday. Should I message them to hold them till I get back?

Also I have some Red Sea reef energy a&b I bought to fed the corals. Can I use this to add some nutrients or not?

If they would that would be great, but not necessary.
