What would you do with a free 14g?

Upgraded tanks recently, now have an empty 14g with all the equipment still in great shape.
Think it’s too small to try and keep stable for a coral tank...
But what would you guys do??
Something fun, but won’t completely double maintenance load!

Softies = no dosing, correct?
And would they be completely photosynthetic, or would need phyto?

You should be able to keep higher nutrient levels with softies like zoas and maintain mag/alk/calc with water changes. Also, I just noticed you're new around here. Welcome to R2R!

I'd do this as well. Simple tank without crazy filtration or anything. It would be a higher nutrient tank. I'd try mushrooms, zoas and softies.

Also, is there a spare powerhead in that tank? This HOB won’t push much

Eh, I do it when I get to it. Monthly is the earliest I do it. I drain the whole tank and replaced it with fresh slatwater. I do have one it is on the top right hand.

quarantine tank if you don't have one already or even a mixing station or an ATO storage

I would do a small species of mantis shrimp! They are coral safe and are interesting to watch as they smash snails, hermits, shrimps, clams, etc.

I keep a 10 gallon SPS frag tank loaded with fish on my nightstand. Get an AI prime hd used. Hook up an ATO. Invest in a small container of Red Sea ABC+ for dosing, buy a battlebox from Adam @Battlecorals and enjoy!

keep it around empty, in storage, in case of an emergency when you need to setup a QT quickly.

QT Tank for sure, makes it so much easier for keeping your DT free of disease.

If you already have a QT then a softie/zoa tank for sure. Easy water changes will be more than enough nutrient control.

Do you have a light though for the 14 gallon? That might be a bit restrictive of what you can do with it.

Ah, the peril of making an adult decision— QT is definitely the common sense idea since I don’t have one. Would love a softie tank, but I think those are right who advise the mini hospital.

I was actually leaning towards FW!!! For sake of ease. Can’t beat a Betta with a good personality either...

14 gallon bio cube, probably the easiest tank I ever had. Only weekly water changes for maintenance.

That is another good option.....I don't know if you ever check out the freshwater fish on Divers Den but they have some really cool Bettas there.
