Whatis considered the best salt?

IO purple is the best. Not sure the point to use anything else. People have money to blow in this hobby.

A salt as close too what you want your reef running at. And if your close to the sea nsw is the best. I've been using nsw and it's got everything you want and free no salt costs

Almost every public aquarium in the country does two things - uses IO and makes it their own. Accepting a salt as-is seems as dumb to me as taking pasta sauce out of the jar and not adding garlic, oregano, salt, etc... or non-tailored formal wear. It just takes a few second to make it the way that you want it.

Good afternoon guys and gals, I'm just getting into this hobby and would like to know what is considered the best salt to use?

For me I had best success with aquavitro salanity it’s consistent and never had problems like cyano dino or green hair alqae but everyone has a different opinion

So for while I been puzzled by my dying acros and I finally traced it to this Instant Ocean Reef Crystal bucket of salt.

I’ve tested experimental 3 times and control 3 times with Hanna copper HR checker

Control: RO water
Experimental: above RO water with added salt to achieve salinity of 1.026

Results is that copper concentrations are over 0.3PPM with salt and without 0.00. This experiment is repeated 3x as I could not believe it myself.

The hanna hr copper checker is known to be inaccurate with low levels of copper. The salt is fie.

A big factor to me is a salt mix that keeps my barrels relatively clean. We have used a few different salts at the store and eventually settled on Tropic Marin, the parameters are pretty close to where we like them but my main like is that it mixes pretty quick and I have to scrub my mixing barrels much less. It is however expensive salt. The Fritz Blue box also mixes up pretty clean in my experience.

I'd try to see what your LFS offers and if they have some brands you like and keep in stock that would be a good option. Last thing you want is to have a disaster and have to use a different salt than you are used to due to needing to special order it.

Looks like perfect t numbers. Only worry is one month mixing to 8.7 next mix9ng to 7.6. But much easier to raise a parameter than remove it imo.

lol. Do some simple searching. That checker is not made for sub ppm.
