Whats considered a good fishtank?

Greetings. Are you interested in an off-the shelf tank, or something a little more custom? I am very happy with the work Joe and the team did for me on two 150-gallon tanks at Glass Cages. Of course I was at WWC and Top Shelf this week, and saw lots of nice tanks right there in the showrooms, ready to take home.

I bought a CADE. They seem to be pretty well regarded. I don't have water in it yet, and I'm a newb, but so far I've been happy with the quality.

First, what size and setup are you looking for?

They're and Australian company. Designed in Australia and built in China. I've been pretty happy with the build quality of mine. Their stands are aluminum, so there shouldn't be too much worry about corrosion. They're not terribly cheap, but not much in this hobby seems to be.

The manufacturer's website:

I'm a WaterBox fan. The MARINE X 110.4 is a good choice if you're looking for specifics. Decent pricing, and an 80 gallon tank is a good place to start.

ahh ok, I guess 80 gals might be a good option

Hmmm, not sure what size probably something manageble like 100 gals, is aluminum really that muich better than wood?

For rimless I’m a fan of Waterbox, custom Glass Cages is great if you want to spend the extra money, and Marineland for generic and common rimmed tank with the ability to customize with HOB equipment or drill/buy drilled!

CADE pricing is similar to comparable models from Waterbox and Red Sea (with better stand materials and design, my opinion), the only manufacturer that’s significantly cheaper is Innovative Marine (IM) because their products seem to be on permanent discount.

I highly prefer aluminum stands, much lighter weight, will not corrode or absorb and warp if exposed to saltwater.

I have a CADE, stand and sump are very well designed. Only thing I don’t like is that the glass scratches easily, but that’s starphire/low iron for you.

I think the IM tanks and stands offer similar levels of material quality and are maybe a bit more plug and play than the CADEs, since you can option your own sump if you choose to. However, you need to assemble the stand (many stories of poor instructions and mistakes in assembling), and subjectively, I don’t like the look of their stands. Plus, it’s quite a long lead time before yours is delivered.

Something that often goes overlooked in choosing a manufacturer is their customer service when things go wrong. Have to say I’m always satisfied with Algae Barn’s (one of the CADE distributors in the US) responsiveness even if I have minor questions.

the all new red sea reefer max gen 2 plus 625 they are an all in one with all red sea product which should arrived on tuesday . it seem that the have upgraded the cabnet and thicker glass. plus they are offering up to 5 year warranty.

Anything 180 or under I would buy AGA/Aqueon.(never a marineland, terrible reputation) Solid tanks, best overall pricing, can get clear or black silicone, with or without overflows.
Anything larger I’d look to custom builds.

To put the pricing in perspective I got my 180 without over flows for about 695, my 180 with overflows was around 765. That leaves a lot of extra money for toys

I risked a 32 Gallon biocube and honestly I've been quite impressed with its upgradeability

Take a look at Im aquariums. They are built very well and they should have a tank that fits your needs.
I have an IM15 aio and am looking at the ext line 112g or 150g.

If you are looking for a custom build take a look at @Joe Glass Cages if you want to build a system exactly the way you want.

Agree with just buying a standard Aqueon tank as a starter. It makes no sense to spend thousands elsewhere versus a few hundred when you do not know whether you will even like reefing and you can always upgrade in the future and use it as a QT or frag tank. I would also buy any used Oceanic tank at 180 gallon or less that I could find as a starter. They were built like tanks.
