What's so great about Zoas?

Ok I have never owned a Zoa but they seem to be well loved by everyone , so I am trying to find out why?

As of now when I hear Zoa I think of 'melting' , 'toxic' and the only Zoa's I've seen in person where so tiny I could barely see them. But yet everyones pictures of them look fantastic. Are they good for mixed reefs?

Yes I have a mixed zoia garden well starting its the colors and the price isn't cheep but you make it back quick

There are some great looking zoas and there are some "blah" looking zoas. I have some eagle eyes, candy apples, and green apples. I have a few large colonies coming in Thursday. I'm not crazy about them but my thinks they look like small flowers so I keep some in my tank. I just keep them all in one place.

I think of them more like flowers of the ocean. The colors are pretty sweet also. most however, are way overpriced.

I agree most peoples zoas are so tiny and After I buy them and put them in my tank they always grow to about the size of george washingtons head on a quarter.

That's one of them corals where you either like then, or you don't. I didn't at first... Love them now though... Plan on cramming mine full when I get my infrastructure completed on my build.

You just have to grab some and see for yourself, I guess. Real easy coral.

I am a zoa and stick guy, Joshpork has one of the best zoa collections around. Would love to pick his tank.

Zoas are said to be easy corals. While this is true, some are much more finicky and less hardy than others. Zoas did not do well in my tank for the first year, but now they seem to love my tank. And when you see 3 polyps turn into 10 in just a few weeks, you kinda want more. I love zoas and palys. But some corals will just seem to turn you on for a while, and some dont. Then after a while some corals you really never paid attention to, suddenly start looking really good to you. I cant really explain the reason why that is, but it seems to happen in this hobby. I liked a lot of motion in my tank when I first started, now my tank is full of motionless sticks and zoas.

I have been looking forward to our frag swap mostly to see some more corals IN PERSON.

So when people say they melt is that because they are senstive to changes in a tank or something else?

Alot of the high end morphs are harder to take care of, lighting and flow needs specifically. But just like and other corals they can get infections ect. IMO they're just as easy as everything else.

Does everyone 'dip' them or QT them before putting them in their DT (Lugols, revive, coral rx, freshwater) ? Seems every zoa thread I go on someone has Zoas dying by the day from fungal,zoa spiders and nudi,ect.

I had a fungal issue for the first time in a year, came in on A zoa frag i had just received. From now on all frags are getting coral rx and coral revive dipped! Once you know the problem its not hard to fix ushually.

I have coral RX and dip all coral coming into the tank , would I need revive too or does it do the same thing? guess I could google search this too

Revive is just another popular dip. same category as Coral Rx. Just a little bit different ingredients and name.

Honestly, I dip all my coral in Bayer, not just acros.
