What's that one coral you just can't keep?

Not sure lol! I bought many kinds of corals including high end acros, lps, and softies. I'm grateful that I never lost a coral under my care in this hobby.

Green star polyps...... I can keep high end SPS and everything else....

Oh the shame......... ! Lol

Well I can keep it but it just won’t ‘flow like grass’

PS If you want some of that birds nest, I use it as a tank filler because it grows like a weed. I’ll FedEx you some, you pay the freight though for next day delivery from here!

I have no luck with GSP too! I’ve tried 3 different times, and it’s a no go each time! :-( Kinda glad I’m not alone...lol!

Same here! I tried two and just can’t keep it

Weird. I got one from an online retailer. It had bleached just a tiny bit and now has a nice deep DEEP pink and is growing. Remember, it's medish light to low med flow. It's an odd SPS

The one coral i just cant keep wouldnt be a coral its clams. I dunno why but i jist cant keep them. I can keep 99% of sps lps whatever. But clams just die off in my tank.

But if i had to pick a coral i couldnt Keep. It would probably be a hawkins acropora. Ive had 4 of them and they just melt. Or rtn or something down the road.

I have one right now that was doing good but then i went too long on water changes and my tank lost too many nutrients and my hawkins kinda half died.. but its recovering.

I cant think of anything else that i havent been able to keep.

Corals that are kinda tough for me would be a rainbow monti. I cant get the green poylps on them they just are red or brownish.. And ive had mine for a year and it doesnt grow past its plug.

Another coral ive had a hard time with would be ny purple with pink polyps cyphastia. This cyphastria doesnt like high light or even medium light. So i lost 3 frags of it. I had one sliver of it left so i put it low in my tank under some shade and it grew covering my plug now. Weird coral. I have other cyphastreas and they dont do this but this purple one hates light. My others though i cant get the polyps to come out. They only come out at night.

OMG. I just lost one almost immediately putting it into the tank. :(

Millepora! It just doesn't like my tank for some reason. I have all sorts of other "sensitive" sps in there. Birdsnest usually work for me but I just lost a couple colonies due to low nutrients. Perhaps that's the only trick with them?

Cyphastrea! Tried twice and they both mostly died in the same way. Flesh bleached but the mouths still glow under blues and then the flesh turns brown but keeps spreading??

I found cyphstrea do not like high lighting or medium lighting. I ve had a couple die off for no explanable reason. Until i took one that was near dead and shaded it on the bottom. And it started growing well again

Cyphas

I found when i lose sps or almost lose them its due to lack of micri nutrients that 99% of us dont test for. I dont mean calcium.alk.magnesium. i mean like strontium or all those other minor ones.

Everytime i have sps start to bleach or stn on me its due to me waiting too long to do as water change to replenish whatever it is im missing.

Like my calcium alk and magnesium i can keep stable at what i want them at.. Phosphates and nitrates all stay the same. Then after 3 or 4 weeks. My sps start to die. I use carbon and all that stuff.

If i do a 50% water change they all come back. So it has to be a nutrient im nit testing for that is being used up by the corals that doing a 2 part dosing is not replenishing.

So now that my corals are getting bigger and i have so many i cant get away with 1 big water change a month. Im starting to do 1 big water change every 2 weeks or so and i havent had issues since.

Duncan! Have several LPS and SPS colonies that thrive. But the Duncan stony for some reason will not last over two months in my DT. Also having the same issue now with the Homewrecker! Lost two frags of it. I refuse to place either in my tanks again!

Duncan. They Brown Jelly on me or waste away. Once of the fussiest coral I've ever laid my hands on. I find Acropora easier.

Cyphestrea for me as well. I think they are super cool and have tried at least 8 of them without luck.

Capricornis of all things. Any color. I can keep them but I can't grow them out. My favorite coral too. Right now I have 4 pieces in two tanks. One green that turned brown, receded but now turning green on the parts still alive. An red frag that's the same size it was when I got it months ago and two new red frags I just got cause I have to have it lol. The only way I've been able to have a large colony is buy a large colony which I did once about a decade ago.

Kenya tree for me. I cannot get this thing to grow like the weed people say it is. I’m actually disappointed in myself. Can grow lps, poci, stylos, acans, gonis, but this darn Kenya tree!

Man, I wish I could grow birds nest like some people, but this coral just HATES me. I can keep most types of coral (when I'm not being lazy... Ha!), but this one is simply a no-go. I wonder do any of the rest of you have corals that it just seemed like are off-limits for you?

These corals, from a 0 to 10 were at a 9.5 but right now I'm like a farmer waiting for my crops to grow and getting ready to harvest. But my harvest maybe it's not for sure but maybe in 2 years. Bummer
