Whats your least favorite reef maintenance task?

I have to admit it- My least fave thing to do in reef keeping is to empty and clean my stinky protein skimmer cup. It's easy, but the smell is just...nasty. So it's officially my least favorite maintenance task!

What's your least favorite reef maintenance task?

Cleaning the glass....I hate it. I would rather clean the skimmer every two days than deal with the glass. I have coraline algae build up on the front and side glass panes.

Skimmer maintenance.
Pull the whole thing out once three or four times a year to clean the inside and remove scale build up at the venturi.

Killing pests. Aptasia is thw worst one. I see little ones popping up everywhere. Peppermint s don't do everything. I nuke everything and a coral drags one back in. I nwed ro buy nudibranchs that eat them.

Skimmer. There isn't much room under my stand, so to get the skimmer out, it has to be disassembled. It goes back in the same way. PITA.

I would also go with glass cleaning. Draining the sump is fairly easy, unplug the drain while holding one of those taller wonton soup contains all the gunk for my reef octo xp10000sss

Gotta be that skimmer. Everything else I find rather enjoyable and cleaning the glass forces me to take a serious look at the inhabitants.

Testing. Particularly testing for PO4. Given the accuracy of hobby grade meters and kits these days, I feel like I'd be in the same ballpark if I just pointed a divining rod at the tank.

i also feel the same that changing my gfo/carbon is a pita. I gotta have the bucket or a bunch of towels around the front of the sump so I dont drip anything anywhere but get water all over the top of my sump

I'd have to say scrubbing the algae off the glass. I get really lazy sometimes and then it just accumulates and becomes hard like corraline algae. Only if I go in with my hand to scrape it off with an old credit/gift/hotel card to clean it will it come off or I can take forever with my little nano-mag.
