Water changes. They are long, and time consumeing, as well as messy. I actually enjoy cleaning out my skimmer. Pour out a cup of skimmate excites me as it clearly shows how well it is filtering.

Agreed. im out of superglue and keep forgetting to buy it. As soon as i get home from work its "ok...now whats missing...."

Trimming xenia macro and Kendra tree. Kendra not so bad but xenia makes your hands stink. I don't really mind that but the throwing life in the trash makes me sad. All the cheato and grape algae doesn't bother me but tossing xenia does. I place adds on Craigslist for free but last few times I said I had enough for 6 people and approved 6 to come buy and only 1 showed up. I really don't like strange people to come to my house. Those that I know and trust are in the same situation as me. We all have lots of xenia macro and Kendra Every other month we have gallons of xenia Kenya tree and macro to give away. Most goes in trash.

It used to be algae removal. Though, that's all disappeared since I started dosing vit-c. Now it's cleaning the glass. I hate that little region near the bottom that can't be safely cleaned with a magnetic cleaner.

cleaning my skimmer. I only have to do it once a week, but it is always a big mess cleaning it. Luckily I have it in a very easy to access place in the open. Reminds me, I need to do that today or tomorrow. It's getting pretty full.

+100 I hate hate hate cleaning my skimmer I should do it once a week too but sometimes it takes me 3 ugh.

+ 1 for me. When i clean the glass i keep on knocking the corals out so i need to re glue them again. That is why my acropora tank is so dirty. ( only the glass)

I actually forgot how much I hate scrpaing algae! Good reminder...especially those of us who are a bit...clumsy...and have acrylic aquariums. It's a sure recipe for scratches!
Seems that we've all narrowed it down to just a few tasks that we truly hate, though, which is quite impressive, considering all of the different maintenance tasks we need to do on a successful reef system in the course of a week.
Gotta run, time to clean the skimmer...LOL

Doing GFO is a pain just because it is messy and I always get in trouble for making a mess of our 2nd bathroom (the "fish" room). However, the thing I hate the most is fixing/cleaning broken down pumps. The return pump, the rector pump, the skimmer pump, the overflow siphon pump, etc. break down from detritus or calcium carbonate build up and it seems like I have a pump out every 3 or 4 months. I have a 10g sump with no more than an inch clearance in any spot - VERY hard to finagle things out and even hard to puzzle them back in.
Diaphragm pumps are a particular nuisance - they have a million tiny parts and valves and pinpointing the sticking one can take hours.

Cleaning the skimmer is horrible. It makes my whole upstairs stink for a few hours. I also hate hauling all my filter socks to the laundromat. My wife would kill me if I washed them in our washing machine.

Right now it is picking out clumps of hydroids and searching for my 2 pipefish to make sure they are okay.
