I have the same second hand return pump for years, however for the last two months I've been running a different pump and I'm amazed how far technology has come

What other good pump are there?

Waveline pumps are also very quite.

I have a vectra L1 and I love it. I had a thread comparing it to some of the more pricey DC pumps (Abyzz and Red Dragon) and at this time I honestly believe that with price as a concern, there isn't anything that matches the Vectra.

Yes, there are battery backup gripes but it is possible.
Yes, if it worked with an Apex, that'd be cool too.

But at the end of the day it is an outstanding return pump.

That being said, maybe the wavelines and others are decent as well, but I had a bad experience with one leaking when used externally a while back and I am unwilling to trust the more "budget" pumps at this time.

I use the Danner Mag 24 and it pumps a lot of water and runs forever. I have been using the same pump for 10 years and it starts up like new. But it is so loud you can hear the hum when you come into the house.
 
Eheim 1260 and 1262. After those go to the DC pumps mentioned above

I too have been running a Mag for several years without problems. Best........no......but reliable! Great thread though, I'm thinking of upgrading.

+1 on the mags... I run 2 9.5 mags and you just can't kill them. Once they give up"if they ever do" then I'll upgrade. Until then I'll deal with the hum. It's not all that bad. [emoji16]
 
I am using a Vectra L1 for my closed loop and a Vectra M1 for my return pump.
So far in 6-7 months it's been great.
I went with the Vectra pump because of the quality of the Radions I've been using for 4+ years, and the Quiet Drive Vortechs.
I'm glad I did. They were more expensive than many pumps I've used, but none were as quiet as these pumps, and to me that is worth the cost.

I'm running a Vectra and love it. That said my Sicce Syncra gave me outstanding service for 3 years without a hitch. Not quite as quiet as the Vectra but pretty darn close. For someone wanting quality with a very reasonable cost I think it's pretty hard to beat. Still sits in my closet as a back up should my Vectra ever fail.
 
My Sicce seems to want to run forever. Should I break it down and clean it or wait until it complains? The great news is that it is likely the most important device affiliated with my tank, and yet the one with the least problems/maintenance.

I have a Sicce and love it. The quality of this pump is great. Im sure the Vectra is nice, however the price, as well as some failures in the beginning with these pumps is enough to keep me from spending 3x the money for one.
