I think Naoko Fairy Wrasse are my favorite fish personality wise (Cirrhilabrus naokoae for if I Can't Think reads this). I've had two and both immediately ate from the hand and swim in little excited loops when they saw me.

But this new one has an even weirder behavior that maybe takes the cake. When I first added it my royal gramma and my female ocellaris bullied it. So I lowered my plant box to give it somewhere to hide and it quickly found that hiding place. After a few hours the other fish accepted the new addition and it came out to live unharnessed in my tank. I moved the plant box back up and thought that was the end of it. However over the next few weeks when doing the morning feed I'd sometimes notice the Naoko was missing. It would eventually reappear so I didn't think too much of it but when it missed two feedings in a row I decided a better hunt was in order. Guess where I found it?

Now that probably doesn't sound too crazy but that box usually sits so that lip is well above the water line and there are no other entrances. So every evening this fish must've jumped into the box and every morning jumped straight back out!

I have now lowered the box slightly so it gets in and out easier but I'd love to hear if anyone else has any funny fish behaviors?

My 2 firefish disappearing for 3 month and thought dead, reappearing suddenly, and in good health?
My hippo tang carrying a shell around the tank for a while? It moved it back and forth and dropped it at different places. Shell was eventually place back where it started from, and my hyppo stopped that behavior.

I definitely agree with the Naoko being the most personable. Now, my fish all avoid me like the plague unless they know it’s feeding time. The naoko however decides that he wants to play.
When I’m working in the tank this fish will quite happily swim in and out of my fingers (It scared me the first time as all I felt was the slime coat on my skin). The other reason why is because earlier today I decided to put in a second wavemaker and again, all the other fish stayed on the opposite side of the tank (Around the first wave maker). The naoko decides he wanted to play so whilst I was adding the wave maker he swam around my hand and between my fingers. Then when I turned on the wave maker both of them were at full power blasting the tank with flow from both ends of the tank. My naoko decided to play and swim into the flow and then get pushed all the way back (Putting both his dorsal and pelvic fins out).

P.S. Love that you did the scientific name haha, must be a hint towards when I talk about wrasses I almost always use the scientific name. Truth is, I use the scientific name because I never remember their common names.

I've never heard of a tang doing that! haha

Also its weird how fish can disappear for months and reappear suddenly and in perfect health. Shrimp gobies seem to do that a lot. Just refound my orange spot goby, hadn't seen it for months.

I have two that disappear for weeks at a time and then come out for a few days and then gone again.

Posted this on a different thread, but really fits here. My Bellus Angel spends her entire day doing laps around the MP40s on one end of the tank. She may stop for a few minutes at feeding time, but quickly gets back to doing laps. She will get quite irate if anyone else gets too close to her MP40s. Kind of like her version of a fish tread mill I guess.

That is hilarious! What a funny fish. I love bellus.

Also perfect song choice! HAHA

How scandalous!

I find this so annoying but also funny. My foxface in particular is terrified of me up until it realizes I'm feeding then it's all fine and happy.

Okay. I'll play. I don't have any video. I never think to whip out the camera when there's something interesting going on.

About a year ago I picked up a juvenile matted file fish. She was less than inch long, and I worried about how she would fare with the larger fish in the tank. I shouldn't have worried. I named her Lovey because she immediately tried to school with every fish in the tank. And I have some big fish. She would swim alongside my 7" foxface and my 6" melanaurus wrasse. She even tried to keep up with the 8" hippo tang. Luckily nobody paid her too much attention. This behavior was constant and lasted for months.

I already had an adult male filefish, and he would get exasperated with her and try to bully her, but she just couldn't take a hint.

Lately, she hasn't been as clingy. I have noticed that Ray, the foxface regularly cruises past her for a tandem lap or two of the tank. They're kind of buds.
