What's your wackiest fish behavior?

Blennifer, my bicolor blenny, punts snails if they're on any of his favorite perches. Usually I just see a commotion out of the corner of my vision, and then there's a snail tumbling down the rockwork and Blennifer is smugly perched in his favorite spot. Occasionally I go through the tank and rescue any snails that have been punted hard enough that they can't right themselves.

Occasionally the blenny and clownfish try to show aggression to each other. Key word is "try". Neither of them are agile enough to actually face off, so they just sort of awkwardly swim in messy circles, unintentionally slipping past each other, until both get tired and give up.

I've never heard of a tang doing that! haha

Also its weird how fish can disappear for months and reappear suddenly and in perfect health. Shrimp gobies seem to do that a lot. Just refound my orange spot goby, hadn't seen it for months.
Interesting! I added a Yellow Watchman Shrimpgoby from ORA to my tank two weeks ago and haven't seen him since. This guy was SO TINY I just figured he didn't survive but you're giving me renewed hope !

I’ve heard this a lot. The non-sand sifters will often disappear into a hole in the back of the tank. Just try and distribute food around the tank and look out for new excavations.

My melanurus likes to put on a show before its morning feedings

My dottyback decided he now lives on this red goni. He circles it and rests on it and defends it from others... he thinks he's a clownfish

I'm not sure "excavation" would be necessary. The display is 130 gals with 100 lbs of porous rock and 80 lbs of sand. When I say this guy is small I mean SMALL. Imagine a guppy then scale it back a bit ! If he's still alive he could be in a thousand places and never be seen.

This happened today.

My FF is a very active fish. But today hes been mia. Took me about ten minutes to find him. He was hiding behind a rock ‍♂️ why. (His nickname is skittish but never hides all day) So i wanted to see whats up. I took my long coral feeder and put down by him. He took off so fast and made 2 laps around the tank. So fast he kicked up sand like crazy. Now hes good. Swimming around and active again.

My larger clown will occasionally swim to the top of tank at night and whip is tail so hard he splashes the wall. Hes done this at least 2x a month.

Fish are weird.

My Royal Gramma likes to take snails that get near his "zone", pick them up with his mouth and chuck them as far as he can. I busted out laughing when I saw him yeet one of my nassarius snails.

My boxfish would do backflips. he would follow new fish around trying to nip their tail fin, his favorite spot was my trachy, he literally sat on it every night. Unfortunately he jumped out last week.. By far the coolest pet ive ever had.

My Royal Dottyback has begun swimming through the sump returns when the pumps are off for feeds. Sometimes he'll be in when the pumps come back on and he gets blown out but it hasn't deterred him. Attached is a pic of him on his way in, he barely fits and has to turn sideways and wiggle in the rectangular opening. He's the tank bully so his welfare is not of paramount importance to me !

I'm sorry to hear that. The naoko that prompted this died a couple weeks ago so I feel your pain.

Hahaha, foxfaces are crazy. Terrified of me up until it realizes there's food then its fighting the other fish to be first in line.

HAHA!. I've seen gobies do that but definitely not a gramma

Yeah... not gonna judge you. My Falco hawkfish also has a hilarious personality but also terrible aggression. I'd love to put him in with the eels and triggers but he's to wily.

My bicolor blenny does that too,,, also to the one little hermit crab I have when it ventures up onto the blenny's perch.

My clown and bicolor blenny are best buds and "play catch" with large amphipod molts sometimes.
Pretty funny but I'm not a video taker and never prepared.
*really they just both get excited if one sees something interesting,,, one bites and spits out,,, then the other,,, then back and forth, usually for just like a minute or so ... fun to watch though

Little late. But I wanted to chime in some. Better late than ever I suppose. My angelfish has the quirkiest and most frustrating behavior I’ve dealt with a fish. If he doesn’t like where a snail is, he’ll move it. And if he doesn’t like the new spot where he put, I think he gets annoyed, and throws the poor snail at the floor. He’ll then pick up the snail or leave it there, which is annoying to me cause then I have to stop what I’m doing and put my arm in the tank. But then comes the quirky part. If he decided he doesn’t like where the snail ended up on the floor, he starts to swim agitated around the snail, darts up and down his favorite spot in the rocks, takes the snail to his favorite power-head, I say his favorite because he seems to always do the action with that specific one, and drop it in front of the current. He looks at the snail as it gets pelted to the distance from the flow, and then he gets happy? :face-with-raised-eyebrow: He starts to swim in small circles right above the power head, then proceeds to find the snail, and pick it up again to repeat the process. If he gets bored he’ll let it go and drops it wherever he thinks is good. Entertaining? Yes. Does the fish get enrichment? Also yes. Does the snail enjoy it? NO! Do I enjoy picking it up wherever he fell, sometimes in the most troubleso spots, and put it on the rocks just so the fish picks it up again? Also no.

HAHAHA! I'm lucky none of my fish do that! Closest I have is my urchin who collects snails, hermits and frags and just takes them on walks around the tank.
