Whelk ?

I bought this snail today and was told it was a turbo snail it is black in the body and has a trunk is it a whelk or any other pest snail

Looks like a type of conch snail. I can't say which.

Based on the protruding tube I'd agree with @Mibu on possible conch but it could be a whelk. Some whelks are beneficial - nassarius etc - while some are predatory. Based on the lack of noticable eyes I'd lean more heavily towards whelk.

So after closer inspection of the first picture it may have eye stalks. If that's the case it's probably a conch.

Here is one article off many from the net how to tell difference between nassarious snail and whelk ( I know you mentioned bought as turbo snail)

From what I can remember nassarious snails move faster than whelks and nassarious snails go under the sand and whelks dont,something about whelk can seal themselves in the shell completely and nassarious snails cannot and whelks have tattoo like snouts ( but my nassarious vibex and tonga nassarious also got tattooed snouts so unsure on this )
And also on very rear of flesh on my tonga nassarious snails at least ,they got a little yellow hard thing so not sure if this what they mean by extra shell on rear off foot to seal themselves in if a whelk.
And remember something about the eyes being different but forgot what lol but if Google it you can find out I'm sure.

But agree with mibu that looks more like some kind off conch ( maybe a fighting conch? As got the spiny shell but idk honestly

It has a shell thing

and it has feelers rather than eyes

I am leaning more towards whelk as it has no eyes just has feelers and also has some sort of shell that closes up the rest of the shell when it’s scared

Looks like nassarious. Whelk will have a tail like structure and tube will have a pattern like tattoos

Here's my nassarius snail. There's a tonga nassarius snail in my reef too but it's not in my sight to take a Pic.

It is black and does not burry into the sand like my others
