Long story short, had a tank crash, saved what I could in a holding tank. Complete kitchen remodel happened-holding tank got neglected. And now I am sitting on some corals that need some tlc. I have the majority of what I saved switched over finally to the new set up. My question is, at what point is a zoa/paly considered past tlc? They aren't COVERED in algae by any means, but there is some growing on the stalks and some of them have algae on the heads. And I cant remember the last time I actually saw them open. Are they toast, or do I still switch them over?
Thoughts?

Here are some photos of a few different pieces. They all look the same pretty much. Not a ton of algae, just enough to be a nuisance. The biggest issue I had with the holding tank was salinity swings. I didn't hook up an ato system to it and cabinets ended up getting stacked in front of the tank. Etc etc. It has been an up and down swing constantly. Remodels are a *****.

*the candy cane skeleton on this one has been long dead, way before the holding tank

Try dipping in povidone iodine . It worked for me . After dipping it felt like my zoa had a Red Bull and boosted back to life

there so much different ways to dip...is there a magic cure? I've tried, FW Dip, Coral revive, Bayer. Some people say hydrogen peroxide. When dipping I didn't find any nudibranchs or zoa spiders. All the closed Polyps looked ok I didn't see any eggs. Could it be zoa pox, zoa worms I have no clue

I actually drive by a CVS on my way to and from work, so I'll pick some up on my way home today and give it a whirl! Honesty I don't even remember what they look like! I have some lps that need a little tlc too, not near as bad as the zoa/palys though. Would they all benefit from an iodine soak too? It would be two different blastos, chalice, Duncan, candy cane, and a hammer

I've only have used it for zoa and torch. Which did help revive my torch. ? Zoa you can dose dark like coke. Try it out and keep us posted

I'd take a soft toothbrush to it and get rid of the algae, dip them and they should come back. One of the pic looks like you have bugs on them though. Little black spots?

I think they are definitely toast. I just put them in a hydrogen peroxide dip and they pretty much instantly started melting. Nothing really to lose though so now they are in an iodine dip and then I'll give them a rinse and pop them in the tank. Would be cool to see them recover!

why not iodine dip before HP dip?

Dips are done and they are in their new home...Not looking so hot, but hey, had nothing to lose so we will see if anything comes of them.

Few of the other corals that I was able to save from the crash. Still need a lot of TLC, but the new set up should provide that! Will be neat to see them bounce back.
Hammer...

This blasto was the only thing not really affected. Lost a little color, but that's about it. Even spouted a few new heads!

Chalice (my favorite piece) has seen better days, but holding in there...

Duncan...lost color and the holding tank had significant less flow so they are stubbier than they used to be...but they also sprouted a few new heads!

The clowns found the duncan within seconds of placing it!

And the fts...

Here's hoping they all make an epic come back

My tank just crashed as the result of a recent heat wave here in Cali. It's a soft coral tank and I lost all my lps and leathers and a goby. However, I didn't even realize how many different zoa and paly colonies where going on in my tank now that a lot of stuff is cleared out. After the "heat stroke" I siphoned all dead and dying corals out and did a 50% water change. A lot of the zoa colonies where there but closed and some where starting to be covered in algae. It's been a week now and my CUC, luckily has gotten to those covered in algae and the colonies are opening back up. I'm not one for the chemical route so I'm breathing a huge sigh of relief right now. One thing I've learned about this "expensive" hobby is that losses are gonna happen but those bounce backs satisfying, too. I don't know how your tank looked before but the landscape in your fts is the bomb. Good luck and happy reefing..
