When do you get to the point where...

It is a strange addiction. I think it comes from when you see an awesome reef once. Then, that image is stuck in your head and you try your best to duplicate that in your home. "If I only had that new skimmer, I bet all this algae would go away" we tell ourselves to justify the spending. New skimmer gets here, pulls out massive amounts of junk, but the algae remains. Time to buy a foxface. I've heard they do wonders on nuisance algae. Get the foxface but algae is still there. I've heard if you run a sump w/ macros in it, that will out compete the algae in the display for nutrients. Time to buy a new sump and a light that can grow algae. Get sump and light, but algae is still there. time to buy or make an ATS or try that Vibrant stuff everyones is talking about.

that's how this big trap works IMO.

My UPS driver knows me by name and brings my packages early when he makes one of his first stops at work. Live fish/corals especially he will make sure he gets it to me, if I'm not right there he will ask to leave it with someone if I'm busy or bathroom.
The FedEx driver was into reef tanks many years ago. He'll chat for twenty to thirty minutes when I have a delivery. He always makes sure the packages are in good shape and tries to get them to me early. He wants to start a tank again and likes to look at the equipment I have. Sometimes you get people who really care!:)

It never ends.:) You see me rant on LED's that's because when I set up my tank I started going thru the various brands and using them on the tank. I wanted to spend time learning about this type of lighting. Well over the coarse of time I purchased all the various brands available to see what the hotness was with each brand. Well needless to say this was an expensive endeavor. As you never get what you pay for equipment back you always lose some money. I ended up going back to the MH light style due to getting tired messing with corals and lights. An my wife would say why are you wasting time on these things when you know what will work.
Many times we like to try what others we see are using only to see that the full story is not told about a piece of equipment and one has to learn the hard way why you end up using one piece or another.
As I get older I really don't like wasting time on equipment that might work for a short period of time because it was cheap. I generally go with the better equipment that will not cause me issues do to something that was not explained but I had to find out was the issue with it.
So you end up with a bunch of aquarium junk that is useless. An so now I stop and really look hard at equipment as I don't want to buy junk anymore.

It takes lots of self discipline to not over spend on your reef. Having said that, I consider myself a reef hoarder! Not only is my basement full of reef stuff, but my fish are starting to demand more space in the tank.

Hey, I think I'll buy a bigger tank!
