Purchased a few acro frags two days ago, acclimated slowly put on sand bed and been seem to be doing okay polyps are all out on acros my question is when do I move the acros up to higher light?

Honestly i have never acclimated my sps to light. If they’re purchased healthy, they go directly to the top. Haven’t lost a single frag and i have over 40 frags. Even my 750 dollar frag went to the top same day.
I never did in the past. Not sure i will now. $750.... whoa... got a pic?

Its a SBB Jekyll & Hyde. It was in my frag rack because i added more coral that same day but believe me it went directly to the top within 10 min of putting it in. Lol doing great so far

Sounds good guys thanks for the info! Been on sand bed whole time will move up once I’m home

Yup my acropora go up in the rock work out of the bag.
Got this Palmers blue millopora yesterday.
Healthy acro should acclimate quickly. If I see an issue I reduce the intensity or duration of the photoperiod.
Now LPS and monti I do acclimate. Acro and zoanthids nope. In they go and they almost always open up within a hour.

Perfect can’t wait to get them bad boys up top

Y’all think that is to high for the acro on the frag rack? Prolly 4-5 inches from top of water

It depends on your lighting and how much par you’re giving them. I would say about 10 inches from the water line is ok. May i ask why you haven’t glued them to your rock?

I normally place all my frags on my frag rack which is set at the halfway mark of my tank (24x24 cube).
My frag rack gets anywhere from 300-400 par alone. I mainly place them there so I can decide later on where I want to place them onto the rocks.

Okay gotcha maybe I’ll move my rack down a bit

The stick looks good has color. As for glue just go to home depot and buy gorilla glue but get the gel type. Works really good. Add to the bottom of the frag and before putting the frag in, grab your finger and add a couple drops of water until the glue turns a milky color. Rub in the frag with the rock to create a strong bond.

Browning usually means not quite enough light or not enough nutrients (usually, but not always), and white or bleaching generally means too much light or extremely poor water chemistry.

Thanks the tip will pick some up next time I’m out! Frag seems to be doing okay now

As for flow can I put him in front of a powerhead? I’ve got my apex running really well and have two mp40s and a mp10 running all at different times for different flow patterns they should like that

Nope do not stick them in front of any direct flow. Indirect and random flow. I made that mistake a couple times.
Sounds like you have enough random flow, so just leave them be.

:-)
