When will I know I need to change my filter sock?

Good thread - I'm going to start changing mine every few days. I was waiting until they backed up, but it's probably a good idea to get all that junk out sooner.

If water is not flowing through time to change. Everyone's system will be different. Make your own socks. There is a thread on how to make these on R2R.

I change mine once a week unless it starts over flowing. They say you should change them every 3 days. I bought 8 of them at BRS so I'm not washing them every other week.

Somebody recommend me to don't use a sock to avoid high nitrates if I don't have the time to wash it 2 o 3 times per week, I don't know if it's good to try it or not, Amy advise?

I try to change mine every few days to keep from waste breaking down. It is a pain to wash socks once every couple of weeks. But I saw a diy filter sock on here the other day you may want to look at. You can make them for about 15 cents and just trow them away. Thats what I am about to start doing.

I change mine when It is overflow or it come out from the top.

please let us know!

Dollar store. :D

For 15 years of reefing, I've done and tried pretty much everything. Regular Felt socks works better for me since they're cheap at the dollar store. I can afford changing the filter every week without worrying the wife seeing me washing it in the washer.

I sometimes double the socks, depending on the excess nutrients I may have in the system. Our FOWLR always uses 2 filter socks every week and the SPS tank requires only 1 sock per week.

I just Change / Dispose them weekly. :) 4x socks for a buck!

( I soak the socks in a clean water overnight before using it. ) I've been doing this for 3 years now.
