I'm at that point where i don't trust the LFS for fish. I'm wondering where you buy your fish.

You can buy from liveaquaria and lfs stores just setup a quarantine tank I juat got into this hobby and I will be the first to tell you that I have wasted hundreds of dollars not having a quarantine tank my 55 sprung a leak I have had ich in two of three setups take it fir what its worth u will be so much more happy quarantining fish trust me

Yeah, i have just learned my lesson on QTing my fish. I had a tang just die on me from ich. I have read it will take 6 months for the ich to die off if there is no host. I'm wondering if i QT my fish for a month and put them into the MT if i will have an outbreak again.

Qt them fir 6 to 8 weeks the dt display tank needs to be empty for at least this long for alk the cycle to run threw

If a fish is healthy and there is ICH present in the tank, will the ICH still survive after 6-8 weeks?

Guess i'll get the nets out and spend the afternoon getting every fish out and into my QT tank... :( My poor clowns are going to miss there anemone.

It is definitely nit fun but it is what needs to be dine man sorry

I disagree. Most tanks have ich in them. Your fish will normally be fine. Times of stress may cause one fish to be affected but with proper water parameters and frequent feeding of quality foods the fish will normally pull through and be fine in a few days. Netting a fish and moving him to a small QT is not always the best bet.

My goal is to rid my tank of ICH. Once the ICH gone in the MT and my fish have been treated and i QT all new fish correctly. If a fish is stressed in the MT there will not be any ICH to take advantage of his weak immune system.

10 to 12 weeks is normally the minimum suggested for the ich cycle to be completed. Fish are not the only things that can bring ich in so you will have to QT everything you ever bring in, including rock and corals. Although I have read in several forums that with corals you only have to QT for a number of days instead of weeks.

I hope that you are spared further fish loss. It sucks when a fish dies. It always makes me feel like a murderer.

I don't think the life cycle of ICH is very long. If you don't have fish right now, you should bump up your temp to 82 degrees for about a week or two. If you want to get a UV sterilizer that would be a plus as well. I have one that I would get rid of but it needs a new bulb.

But I don't think you have to go fishless for more than a week or two. I always thought the entire life cycle without a host is about 10 days. Then try something small like a chromis if you really want to test it out before you put in larger fish like a tang. Also remember that Tangs are alot more suseptible to have an ich outbreak than most fish.
