Hey reefers, simple question here:

Where to get 1/5 micron filter socks?
I found a website called McMasters but do I get the Filter Sock for Food and Beverage or just High-Purity Filter Socks for Water?

Thanks!

It looks like neither of those sell 0.2 micron filter socks, the best you'll get is 1 micron.
Ah sorry, meant either 1 or 5-micron socks, lol.

The ones made for water have metal rings, which is why I am confused as to which I should get.

The prices on that website are insanely high for filter socks. $5 a piece, and that the cheapest option, no thanks

Servapure is where I got my small micron filters https://www.servapure.com
Correct me if I’m wrong but that site doesn’t sell filter socks. Only filters for RODI systems, which is not what the OP is asking for.
But to the OP, 5 micron socks will clog SUPER FAST, let alone a 1 micron sock. That’s the same size as your RO filter....

They sell 5 micron 4" socks, I bought 10 a month ago, here's the part number from my order:

155385 Pentek 155385, BP-410-5 Polypropylene 5 Micron Bag Filter, 10''

Search for bag filter and you should see a bunch. Naming convention is fairly straightforward.

How often do you have to change a 5 micron sock?

Yeah, I wouldn't use something that low except for lanthanum chloride. The regular brs filter socks work well. Honestly though, I've pulled my socks off for the past two months and anecdotally my corals look happier. If nutrients are an issue, I would use socks, but I added carbon dosing and do a thorough cleaning of my sump where the detritus accumulates and it works for me. I do supplement with gfo though to keep phosphates down.

I am planning to dose lanthanum chloride, exactly!!! GFO is way to expensive, looking to dose Brightwell Phosphate E, which I believe is lanthanum chloride. (Phosphate is at 0.6, looking to get it to 0.1 or 0.15)

Edit: Hopefully the filter sock you mentioned isn't bad for the tank! Will get 2 of those

I will only use it for Lanthanum Chloride dosing. Probably use it 12 hours a week, so I only need 1, maybe 2. I would expect a 1 micron sock to be more $ than a 200 micron; even so, my Red Sea socks are $10 each.

Just make sure to dilute heavily and use an iv dripper. I got mine on ebay for plants. I've heard people spreading out a dose over 12hhours. I wouldn't try and drop it more than a 0.1 point a week personally. I'm not really sure what's safe to drop a week, but I'm sure there's lots of people with eexperience.

Yes, using IV dripper. Phosphate E is already diluted. I was planning on doing 0.1-0.15 a week anyways until I reach 0.1 or 0.15.

I used their 1 micron socks for lanthanum dosing. I forget how I mixed it, but it was like a few ml mixed into a quart of RODI. It worked well but clogged quickly. I think I used 2-3 when I did it.

Be very careful about the dimensions. The one above seems to be 10“ across? Also the one I mentioned previously was 4" but short! I've started dripping 1mL in to about 2 litersaat aabout oone ddrop every few seconds. I'm betting the sock clogs before the 2 liters is through.
