White growth on regal angel fin

I just noticed this today after getting some light on the tank.. Regal is not scratching, itching or twitching.. He's eating well and not hiding as much as he used to. Currently doing TTM and transfer3 (day 6) is tomorrow.

There is a white thing on the bottom fin by his belly. I didn't see this before.. what is it? looks like a piece of mysis. At first I thought he had some food stuck on him but its definitely on his fin.

I'll try to get cleaner image with my real camera if this one is too hard to tell.

He moved his fin and I can see theres some redness on it right next to the white. Couldnt see it before until he spread the fins out... does that mean an infection? I have kanaplex and metroplex. Should I dose the tank or the food? I have two wrasse in the QT with him.

Redness usually indicates infection. You should dose the water for external infections. The wrasses should be fine, but you can move the angel to its own QT if you are worried.

Maybe just add a little water movement or an airstone to help with oxygen exchange.

I would, yes. Dose the entire QT. As you already know, adding in Furan-2 + Metroplex will widen the spectrum of treatment.

I'm currently doing TTM and dosed Prazi on Monday (transfer 2 start). Tomorrow morning is transfer 3. Should I wait till tomorrow to dose kanaplex or should I start today and continue tomorrow? I assume prazi is out of the system already since it only active for 48 hours or so? Also, how long should I do this.. Transfer 4 will have another prazi dosage.

I would just dose it after the transfer, or do a large water-change first. The antibiotics need to run for 10 days, dosing every 48 hours, and I think it's preferable to not run prazi with them.

If it was a prophylactic dose, I would probably just skip the prazi and restart after the antibiotics are completed. If you suspected flukes were present you could take a break in the antibiotics (removing with carbon/a water change) to run the prazi for 24 hours. After 24 hours you can run carbon/water change again and then resume antibiotics.

Thank you! I will start tomorrow. It definitely looks like some sort of infection but he's still eating and doesnt appear to be in pain.

So that white thing is like puss or something from the infection?

Mucous, damaged tissue, maybe a little lympho. Something along those lines. If it's lympho, it might get larger and look kind of lumpy. Just keep an eye on it.

Regal is doing well now. I did the kanaplex treatment and the redness went away. He eats 3 times a day but only a few bites and its small mysis or brineshrimp.

I also finished TTM on Wednesday and did an extra transfer on Saturday just to be safe.

I started noticing white marks on his tail fin and sometimes his side fin, during the last week. They would come and go. Its not like ich or anything.. What can this be? Is it lympho? Does that stuff come and go so often? I see the white spots come and go a few times now.

He's breathing normal, not flashing or scratching. He is also being QT with a wrasse who appears normal as well.

Yes it certainly can. Usually it will get much bigger before going away, but I would venture to guess that your angel's immune system has built up enough to fight it off before it has a chance to get larger. Which is a good thing.

If its not lympho, it can only be ich because velvet is too small right? And if its ich, it would be spreading more around so I should see more white spots? I did just do TTM so shouldnt be ich but I never feel confident with TTM...

Everything I see white specs, I get VERY nervous!

If its ich, it will only remain on the fish for 3-7 days before disappearing. Less time for velvet. Lympho typically lasts >7 days and the white nodules may even grow in size.

Does this still look like lympho? He has more white spots now, one more on the middle of the tail.. THe one by his anus I think has been there a while.

Strange, I did TTM already so I'm not sure what this is.. Also, just noticed he's a misbar regal (at least for now). If this is velvet I should be seeing more spots right? and smaller ones? No scratching or anything weird that I have seen.

Also, his neighbor in the same tank has a weird patch of white on the side fin.. any ideas what this is?
