Any thought on this?

I have seen white spots many times. Sometimes its just a small irritant and others the beginning of the whole chalice wasting away. I suggest dipping it now and awaiting developments. How's your mag level and any other LPS acting / looking oddly?

Been in the tank about a month. I’ll check and report back on mag. Nitrates and phosphates are near zero ( can’t seem to get them up). Alk 8.0 and calcium 420. Other LPS look fine

Has all been steady? Have you had a recent spike?

No no recent spikes. I’ve been trying to get my nitrates and phosphates up a bit. My alk is steady at 8 and they don’t really seem to consume calcium. There are only 6 or so drags in the tank

Ok. That’s good.

Keep things stable for a few days and post pics.

Sometimes if a piece of sand sets on them too long it can do that. Not saying thats the case but maybe a possibility

I’m hoping it’s something like that. It doesn’t seem to be getting Any bigger or changing in any way. But it’s still there

I would watch it for now. No need to start dipping and stressing it out. Mine gets that when it gets stung by it's neighbor (hammer coral), just make sure to feed it well. If the eyes start getting duller then I would worry.

I agree with hotdog, if its not getting worse dont dip it. Sometimes this causes more stress and just makes the coral die faster honestly. Feed it and you should be alright. Feed it a little more often than normal but not too much as the food can start to rot inside of the polyp and this can lead to problems. Its not always that big of a deal but try not to get the food in the dead part either, this can spur algae growth or get irritated or picked on from your clean up crew.

I typically just broadcast feed reef roids an hour after lights out. Should I direct feed or just keep doing what I’m doing. There isn’t anything near it to sting it. Closest coral is 8 -10 inches away. The eyes and overall coloration is as bright as ever.

Upon returning from a trip, things are not improving. As a matter of fact the seem to be getting worse. Calcium is at 420, mag 1290 (trying to bring that back up), alk at 8.4.

Your Mag isn't that low ,, but it should be brought up to that 1400 number ,, jmo mag doesn't really hurt anything ,, go a head and dose it up to your 1400 number ,, you wouldn't do that with Alk but Mag is alright ,,, I would get your Calcium up to 450 also ,, I wouldn't worry about the Chalice at this point ,, those could be new eyes popping up ,, the coral looks healthy to me ,, if I were going to do anything with it ,, it would be to shade it a bit more ,, I am not sure it needs that though ,, not knowing your tank lighting ,,

I appreciate your thoughts. I’m getting the mag up and I agree on the calcium as well. I moved the chalice to a lower light spot when I originally saw the loss of color. My tank is a 60 cube lit by a single kessil 360x. The coral was about mid was up directly under the light. I moved it to an area of lower light off to the side. Hopefully things will turn around

I stick with what I said earlier. The chalice looks fine and colorful and it's likely new eyes forming. I wouldn't move it or do anything but make sure your parameters are where you want them.

Is it an Avatar chalice? If so, I have the same one. It's in full light under T5s right in the middle bottom of my tank. No shade and it's growing great. It's at least doubled in size since I got it earlier this year.

sorry the photo is sideways. i don't know why that is or how to change it.
