White spot on YWG

The only thing I might add imo mix your fresh saltwater the night before and let it circulate with a power head or pump. I would never add DT water to my qt because you keep introducing the bacteria or parasite into your qt.
Also then nitrifying bacteria live on surfaces not in the water

Sorry to hear this :(

We are sometimes a little aggressive advising treatment whenever a fish has a seemingly minor injury or infection, because we know from experience how fast things can go downhill.

Sorry for your loss :(

Thanks everyone :( feel bad for pistol pete now. He needs a friend I think.

How long do you think the bacteria would've survived in a fishless tank? LFS has yellow gobies for $7.99 this weekend.

That's kinda hard to say because most harmful bacteria can subsist off of nutrients & organics in a QT/DT.

I would dose an antibiotic (e.g. Kanaplex) to knock their levels down before adding more fish.

I only have sulfaplex. Same outcome? Safe for my inverts and corals? Only have hammer, frogspawn, GSP. How long is a dose required before it's likely safe for fish?

Sulfaplex is good, but I don't have any experience using antibiotics in a DT with corals/inverts. Except for erythromycin and it worked out fine for me, but some have reported losses.

Do you happen to have a UV sterilizer? That is another good way to eliminate free floating bacterium in the water.

I do not. Does anybody else have any info on this YWG disease and if it stays in the DT with no fish?

It's not really a "yellow watchman disease"... it's simply a bacterial infection. There are many many many types of bacteria in the water and it's the fish's immune system that keeps it from hurting the fish. So, yeah, the bacteria will always be there.... just like people in the real world. Bacteria is all around you on surfaces everywhere and in the air. Your immune system keeps you safe from them. Make sense?
