Hey guys,

So I have been going fallow since 20/08 after what I believed to be an Ich outbreak. So that's just over 2 months now with no fish in the tank.. I don't have coral or inverts either so just sand and rock in there at the min.

I started to notice white spots floating around in the water a few days ago and also white spots attached all over the glass and they seem to be moving??

Any ideas?? Is this the parasite??

Looks like spirorbid worms on the walls. Pain in the butt when cleaning the glass but otherwise harmless filter feeders. If they look like tiny coiled shells on the glass that's what they are. As for what is floating around in the water column I don't know, that could simply be debris. You won't see the actual ich parasite, they are too small to see with the naked eye.

Just looked up spirorbid worms and I'm certain that's not what it is but whatever it is it's the same thing on the glass and in the water column.

This is a real pain, waited over 2 months so far with nothing in tank and then these things appear... I have 2 clowns in QT tank ready for the DT but not sure whether or not I should add fish with these things in there?

Medusa stage hydroid? It's really impossible to say without a clearer pic.

It difficult to get decent images as they are soooo small..

Here's a video, maybe this will give ye a better idea of what we're dealing with:

Do you have any mechanical filtration that might be pulling some of these out of the water column? If you can get them under a magnifying glass or microscope, or even better, get a good macro photo, it might help identify them.

I do use a canister filter if that has anything to do with it??

Here's some more pics and a video, I took one of them out of the tank, put it on black cardboard and used a 20mp camera with as much zoom as possible.

As you can see from the video, it doesn't move at all but whatever they are there's 1000's of them in there..

So I took that piece of cardboard with the white thing on it to the LFS and the guy working there said they are most likely marine fleas and nothing to worry about...

Anyone ever encounter these before???

Pods, but the pics don't look like any of the pods I've got. But if they are Pods, be happy. Things you'll put in the tank eat them.

Take a look here

There are all kinds of tiny wildlife in reef tanks refereed to as "bugs" but they aren't insects. There are a few you really don't want like flatworms.

Shine a flashlight on a reef tank that has been in the dark for a while and you are likly to see all kinds of scary things.

Don't really mind them been there as long as they're not harmful to the fish... the last thing I need now is to add my clowns only for something else to go wrong, that would be the final nail in the coffin... so I'm trying to identify what exactly they are.

These seem to increasing in numbers and are now everywhere, does anyone have any idea how to get rid of them? Would increasing the water temp help? I can remove the 2 clowns to QT Tank if necessary, I would appreciate any help as this is getting out of hand.

I've looked at pods and various types of bugs and have yet to see anything like these, to look at them on the glass they look like a tiny white dot, almost like a grain of salt and they move along slowly...

Surely someone must have experience with these???
